Two of us have never even been to Tennessee.
We are really excited to cheer on your Vols but we have never been to Knoxville or Neyland before! Looking for can't miss food recommendations if you don't mind šŸ˜….

Go Rocky Top!!
Clahouns on the River is a nice spot.

I haven't been to Knoxville. I'm out west like you fine folk. California. Though I hear Utah is a sneaky nice place to live.

Tennessee fans are awesome.
The Smokey Mountains aren't as tall as the mountains out west but they're beautiful. Absolutely mystical and enchanted. Visit the Great Smokey Mountains national park and stop at a breakfast spot in Gatlinburg, TN.

You won't regret it 😊

Go to Pizza Palace and experience a Knoxville treasure. Trust me please. If you only eat near the down town area you're not truly experiencing Knoxville

Welcome to Knoxville! There are a lot of great spots on/around Market Square. Stock and Barrel, Cafe 4 or Tomato Head. Close to there in the old city is Boyd's Jig & Reel (owned by UT President Randy Boyd I believe), Southern Grit or Lonesome Dove.
Hope you all enjoy your visit and the game, Go Vols!

GUS' is a requirement for newcomers. Relatively close walk to stadium. East TN steamed hoagies...very local way of hoagies around K'town and it's outskirts.

Go hungry. Get the Reuben, a Philly, and a burger. And the fries are legit. It's a dive. And every UT legend ever has a pic and an autograph on the wall somewhere. After games you just might find the HC there eating. Even that ole Bammer dud of a coach Pruitt knew to eat at Gus' after games.

Walk down 17th Street after game to 17th Street Market. Maybe half way down the road/hill. They will have wings and ribs and stuff on parking lot smoker/grills. Fantastic. After they smoke the wings they deep fry them inside and dust them with yellow curry powder. Those wings will blow your mind.

Now when you say "cheer on your Vols", you mean scream like a madman without cessation for 3 and a half hours straight, right?

Agree with the Gus's and Market Square recommendations.

Go Vols!

i lived in Knoxville for 26 years before I moved last year for work. When I come back, the restaurants I have to go to are Yassin’s Falafel House and Tuk Tuk Thai. If I visit my mother in law in Oak Ridge, a trip to Big Ed’s Pizza is a must. If staying in west Knoxville, look into Seasons and Connor’s.

You will love it. The folks are hospitable regardless of affiliation and best / if it your thing, you can order more than 2 beers per hour. I spent many nights in UTah staring at my watch wondering when I could order a third. Utah and east TN are gods country... especially southern UTah... incredible. Enjoy!

I’d recommend checking out the following spots and choose a few:

Market Square
Stock & Barrel - great burgers and a huge bourbon selection
Soccer Taco - Mexican sports bar
Pete’s (breakfast joint)

Strip
Gus’s - don’t run afoul of Gus or he’ll get after you with his bat

Old City
Barleys - pizza and sports and pool/darts

True story: he threw me out when as a student I drunkenly (and repeatedly) was telling him he had paid too much for the extraneous ā€œSā€ in sign out front.

Go to Gus’s Good Times Deli the morning of game day. Crowds get big the later you go
I’d recommend you go AFTER the game, ideally with a solid buzz on.

Don’t overdo it, pace yourself and maintain.

The Rueben Sandwich is amazing paired with an Arizona Arnold Palmer.

Also, if looking for an iconic steak place and don’t mind driving over the river (about 15 mins from old city), hit up Ye Olde!
