I honestly don't remember that much about Devante... wish him the best.
I hope he stays and does well, and thanks for wearing the Orange!

Hate it for him. Whenever he was coming in and had 2 precious ACL tears I knew it was going to be hard on him. I’ve had 2 ACL tears and can’t imagine playing an SEC football game, even if I was his size.

Brooks was a TE in high school Butch offered him a scholarship after 2 ACL tears and then his great idea was to add about 80lbs on 2 bad knees and make him a lineman. Not the kids fault but he never should have been here. I say that only because of the medical conditions.

The guy was the high rated 4 star tight end his junior year but an ACL prevented him playing his senior year I believe. CBJ honored his scholarship when others backed off. In his junior year everybody wanted this guy. This is one thing I will not criticize CBJ for because he stood by him. That was a class move. Get your degree young man.

Sucks for the guy. Wish him the best of luck in whatever he does in life.

So I assume this opens up another roster spot?

Yeah, but, it is almost unheard of to show that much of a heart to someone who gets injured after the recruitment has begun. A guy at my high school got a scholarship to Texas A & M and then during the summer before he was to go to college during his summer job, he was working on a tractor which fell on his arm and broke it into powder. Incidentally he was able to lift it tractor and extricate himself with his other arm which is an indication of both his strength and the effect of adrenaline. Long story short he lost his chance at a college education.

I hate hearing things like that. It's a brutal world out there.

I can see how a coach of a program that has been wandering in the wilderness for a decade might need to be able to reassure recruits and families that the player will be taken care of if he does his best but is taken out by injury or illness or [whatever]. UT's a big university. I'd guess that it can afford to pay tuition for an extra half dozen former players when indicated. If that's a version of icing on the cake that can help sway recruits, that's great.

^^ This isn't meant to be cynical, btw.

Actually I truly don't believe Butch honored the scholarship out of heart that dumb ass thought he could turn him into a Lineman and get the credit for doing so. If Butch actually cared about the kid he probably wouldn't have asked the kid to gain tons of weight on 2 bad knees. The logical thing to do when you have bad knees is lose weight.

And yet people lose their minds when kids, who stand to make millions of dollars and lift themselves and their families out of poverty (in some cases), want to sit out for a meaningless bowl game to reduce their chance of being injured. Life is short, get paid while you’re young and healthy.
