Broken NIL Promises

You know I would love to hear specific examples of these “broken promises” instead of this thread breaking down into the usual BS of why nil is ruining the game, and everyone’s opinions on the nil.

Thousands of young men and women have signed NIL deals at this point. Perhaps ten thousand. Or more. I mean, just at one school, Tennessee, we have something north of 135.

So it's going to happen. Probably already has. Someone, somewhere, is going to--upon further reflection--be dissatisfied with the contract he or she signed.

Some of the dissatisfied will have no one to blame but themselves. The collective reps were aboveboard and honest, they just weren't paying close enough attention. Others will have at least limited grounds for complaint because the reps who signed them were shady and dishonest.

There's gonna be some of both. With thousands of young people signing thousands of contracts with hundreds of collectives and businesses, someone somewhere is going to feel taken advantage of, and some percentage of those will be justified in their feelings.

So, sure. There will be unhappy campers. The sun will rise in the morning. Water will be wet. And coaches of OTHER teams will take advantage of stories like that, even if they sometimes have to make them up.

It is gonna be messy. Just as life always is.

But I'm with you, I want to hear real life, specific, by-name examples. Until then, I'm gonna assume it's mostly just coaches making stuff up for recruiting advantage.

They are getting an education for free. I just recently wrote my last check to a state school here in Tennessee to pay for my son's tuition and it promise you it is the exact opposite of cheap. I've had to write 8 checks with comma's in them pay his tuition. Not counting food, room, transportation, books, and technology.

I think the current format is going to be the end of college football as we know it.

Wish I could like this more than once bc this encapsulates most of my thoughts on the situation. Despite all the BS these kids now have a chance to make money, some of them life changing money. I just want to hear who specifically is taking advantage of these kids and how egregious these actions are. It just sounds like a bunch of bull being thrown out by coaches that don’t like the nil and the media.

I heard rumors that a lot of the aTm players from last years class aren’t getting the money they were expecting. Many are from South Florida and apparently it’s a big topic of discussion down there. My guess is Miami will have their eyes on a few of those guys after this season.

I do not understand why any coaching staff would do this considering that anyone getting screwed over is just going to transfer. That does not even consider the reputation they would build among recruits. It makes no sense. This makes a skeptical that it is actually happening.

I'm sorry that I can not explain it the way it was explained to me. I will only say that after hearing the details and how it truly works, it made a lot of sense.

The question is how many of these kids understand what's going on and how many don't for them to become angry at some point.

Folks are being unnecessarily defensive about this. Pate didn't point the finger at us AT ALL. He just said it would become apparent what schools weren't being up front with recruits because these situations where a guy is led to believe one thing and the fine print says something else are going to blow up in the schools/booster collective's face, and he's right about that. I hope it's not us, and Pate gave no indication whatsoever that it was.

Stop setting up straw men so you can knock them down, brother. No one in this thread said they think Pate is talking about Tennessee or Spyre. Not a single person.

Whatever, there are multiple defensive posts ITT and I doubt most who have commented have even watched what he said.

P.S. did I wrong you in another life Will Scarlett? Why are you coming at me? It's not like my post was hostile to anyone, just letting people know Pate said nothing negative about UT. You'd get the opposite impression reading this thread though.

Read an article on SI, sorry don’t have the link that Skyer has promised $3.6m on 128 athletes. Comes to about $29k per athlete. Subtract Nico’s $1m plus & comes to a little over $20k per athlete. Not bad for athletes competing in non revenue sports. Sucks for football & mens basketball. If an athlete in either sport definitely looking at Bama, GA or KY. I take these articles with a grain of salt. But thought Nico was our $8m man? Also thought Spyre was bragging about a $25m-$30m war chest? And what about the Miami QB getting $9.5m?

If you’re a staff and you do this you are absolutely stupid. Word will get out so quick on you it’s as if you give yourself your own ncaa death penalty. Recruits will never take your calls again. I say do it bama! Do it Georgia! Please be stupid I want Tennessee to have it’s pick of the best clamoring to come to big orange country!!!

Heh, no, you've done me no wrong. And I didn't insult you, just pointed out you're tilting at windmills. Read the thread again; there's no indication anyone thinks Pate said anything negative about UT. At all. I just don't know where you're getting that idea from.

I’m calling bull$hit on this. A lot of coaches are at schools that have sat on their ass. What else you gonna say? Coaches are the biggest gossips, liars out there.

Always thought there were 4 types of coaches, those that can development talent, those that can scheme a plan for game day, those that can recruit & those that can do all 4. Curious who you guys think can do all 4?
