Kim & the coaches didn’t turn the ball over 20 times & allow 36 points off those turnovers. These kids get paid to play. They need to go out & do it. The coaches can tell them what to do until they’re blue in the face, but when they continue to have terrible shot selection, not rebound, & not share the ball, then things like the 2nd half happen. When they listen to Kim & the coaches they go into the half tied w/ the #1 team in the country. Everyone says we have too much talent to play how we play. Well we can’t hit a foul shot & we can’t finish at the rim & we can’t rebound. & we can’t not turn the ball over. UConn is a hell of a team. They aren’t a super young team either. When the players that want to be leaders step up you’ll see a different team. CKC has said it ad nauseum they have to mature. She has taken accountability multiple times. It’s the players turn to do the same. Once again, they’re being paid to play a game now. It’s time for them to grow up.

Despite the pay, Geno is still getting the same results.

What is your point? He has a more cohesive team? Yes. He has more experience at this level. Big shock. She’s still learning what it takes & I’d imagine they’re all gonna look harder when recruiting portal players next yr. This yrs class hasn’t exactly been homeruns. Win some, lose some.

Cignetti is reading this and handing back the trophy. Top 5 paid roster, get boat races in second half.

Holly wasn’t here during NIL. Kellie’s recruiting struggles were 100% due to lack of NIL. There were a ton of donors who voiced this concern. The NIL was restructured when she left. Are you folks saying this didn’t happen? If so, there is some major gaslighting going on here.
Total nonsense. Kellie didn’t have as much money to work with as some schools, but she had plenty. There were also several prominent donors that wouldn’t give any more to her to mismanage.

She was a bad closer and had two assistants that flat couldn’t or wouldn’t recruit. She’s a beloved player, but her failures as a coach at two different power 5 schools were 100% her own creation.

Finally someone with some sense on this board the last 24 hours.

Really? Right now UT is top 5 in budget. What were they under Kellie? And I’m not saying Kellie was the best answer per se. However,I have a close friend who’s a sizable donor for the Lady’s and he wasn’t the only one saying this.

There were several recruits who were committed who jumped last minute and the same line I got, said it was due to inability to match NIL. You’re a company man spewing a company line.

If you were a wealthy donor would you waste your money on recruits that the coach couldn't put in a position to win? The reality is they will begin to do the same to CKC if she doesn't begin to show improvement on the court and the reality is she has show very little this year.

Company line? Brother, I write employment contracts for an entertainment and sports law group in Atlanta.

They were top 10 when Kellie was here, Rickea Jackson was the highest paid player in NIL in the conference her last year. They're still top 10, definitely not top 5. South Carolina, Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, UCLA, LSU, Louisville all have higher-paid rosters than Tennessee does just off the top of my head. What's changed is the money available for high school players, where previously donors were only willing to spend on transfers.

LOL! Rickea was not the highest paid player in the SEC - no where close to that. Unfortunately, the LVBHC had no where near the available funds that the Volunteer Club has made available to LVBB and they didn't get involved until after Harper was let go.

My understanding is whatever Rickea was paid that year was a one time special deal set up with Ann Baker Furrow and Mercedes of Knoxville. Really didn’t relate to what regular NIL was available.

Sure it does. Probably 75% of what we call "NIL" are deals exactly as you describe. One or two donors, usually tied to a business, foot the bill for one player. The Volunteer Club and the Boost-Her Club pool lots of smaller money to pay players beyond your biggest stars or to make the first payment on a larger deal for a star until the individual money comes in.

The Volunteer Club still isn't doing much for women's sports, outside of helping connect high-profile athletes with some local brands. They are only involved in actively working with three members of the basketball team currently and only two other female athletes at UT.

There are several large donors that are providing most of the other money and they weren't willing to give it to Harper after seeing her, in the words of one that I've worked with "squander two Final Four rosters." The die was cast for Kellie when she didn't make it past the Sweet 16 with a roster she told everyone that would listen was capable of winning it all. It broke relationships when they didn't meet expectations and following it up with a second round exit the next year left her with no money to work with.

That poster you responded to doesn’t know the half of what they’re talking about. Just says a bunch of silly stuff and ties it to 1 or 2 people who aren’t anywhere near insiders to the program that can really explain the depth of NIL at UT. I do know one thing if the Tennessee WBB program wants to pay any player (s) a hefty NIL deal they have the resources to do it. And they have done it. And there isn’t no 5 or more schools that could’ve paid more either lol that guy should stick to law or politics whatever it is.

@DeerPark12 Thanks for this. I notice that you put some information heavy posts in the thread, $ for Athletes, that you have said you have some connection to the field, and that this is some new information. Lots of us are interested in how things are changing, and there seems to be lots of misinformation floating around. If you've got some things you can add to that thread that might help accumlate some good information over there, please do! I, for one, would be very interested.

I don't think that's true...She actually lost the Mercedes deal when she let James drive her car...I assume they found out from a law enforcement encounter. She committed to stay before that deal was made...Even though she might have got some money from Mrs. Furrow herself outside the LVBHC, she would have made substantially more NIL money if she had gone to Texas or LSU, but she wanted to play another year for Kellie.
