Bristol already behind schedule (updates added)

I would think, since BMS is NOT becoming a permanent football venue, that they would not need a permanent drainage system for that. Perhaps they might need it more for, and have some sort of drainage in place for the track infield? If they need it, they may use some sort of temporary pumps.

I am sure Bruton has engineers who figured out what they needed a long time ago. So, I doubt all attending need to bring a plastic bucket just in case.

There's a lot of grading work happening on 394. Asked some of my nosy buddies if they knew what was up. They all said Bruton wants to put up a motel and permanent football field. Time will tell. Lost my contact at the speedway so I always find things out late.

Had no idea that ETSU was playing there on the 17th. Pretty cool Bristol let them do that so the field could be used twice. Im sure there will be a stark difference in attendance :)

I'm trying to figure out how the view from my seats will be...I'm in the Richard Petty grandstand about 30 rows up.

No, they'll just take advantage of the existing drainage system (center of the infield).

Only thing they have to do is make sure the "lens" of fill material is water permeable so that any rain can make its way down through the gravel and turf cover to the original drain below. And that the permeability matches the maximum potential precipitation. That's actually very easy, in engineering terms.

So no worries on drainage.

This man's done some dirt work.

I can dig it.

Anyone else think that the punters will hit the BIG screen?

During the pre-race talks they were showing Colossus. I believe they said it was 140 feet above the track. Don't see any chance of a kicker hitting that.

You are probably right thinking about it. The TV at the stadium in Dallas is hung 90 feet above the surface and has been hit several times. But getting a kicker to hit the board at 140 feet would be hard to do.

I think we have alot of people that want this to fail, so they are gonna be negative until its over, and then they will still say it was a bad thing even after it was a great thing.

It seems to me that the people who are complaining about not being able to see or the field not being ready on time are the ones that aren't going, and jealousy prevails among that group as well. Now full respect to those that have a legitimate reason not to go, but those that are going are excited to be going to see their beloved Vols play in the most attended football game of all time, and attending what should be a ridiculous tailgate. Not whining about the view or the field. I'm glad most of our fan base doesn't have the "stick in the mud mentality," or Va. Tech would probably bring more fans and the stadium definitely wouldn't be sold out.

I am stoked for the game but in all reality players will look like ants. If you wanna see whats going on you will have to look at the screen. I mean look at the live cam you can barley make out someone walking around. But I am all for the idea. I am just saying.

bristolmotorspeedway.com Has live look as its being done. Looks like its gonna be a good view from everywhere! I'm so ready to be a part of this!

I don't think you understand. AstroTurf takes a lot longer to take root, even after all the seed is sewn. I don't care how much they water it. Artificial turf that hasn't taken deep root will be torn to shreds on game day.

This is a disaster. Hart needs to step down earlier!

OMG! OMG! OMG!
They expect those kids to play on GRAVEL?!?!?!?!?!
Easy now, they're using artificial gravel also!

From that article, a look at the grass, which has grown in well and is ready for transplanting:

There is a very good chance that stuff was grown on one of the machines we build where I work.

I don't work for SportTurf. I work for the company that build the machines that most carpet and turf manufacturers use.
