Bring Fulmer back as Interm coach for.....

Rehiring him will not "save the program" and despite his faults, I think he's a fairly honest fella and he's stated publicly that he's not interested in returning. Deep down, I think he'd jump at the opportunity, but I think his love for the university and the program will keep him from doing it because he knows it will only divide the program and fanbase further than it already is. I was ready for a coaching change when he was fired, and felt it was overdue. But I've never questioned his love for the program, and IMO, that's what will keep him at arm's distance. Of course if Hamilton gets the axe over this, disregard my stance on Phil not getting re-involved in the program because I think there will be a movement to get him in as AD. As it stands now, his shadow would loom too large, pun not intended.

Damage control. Save the recruiting class, and do some re-evaluating before spring practice. See if Kippy can be a head coach, see who else is available, or see if Fulmer should be rehired. We are suppose to have 8 visitors today, something needs to be done but not with a knee-jerk reaction.

Were you really serious when you started this thread?

Very bad idea. Anyway, on to something more interesting. Dan Patrick is taking email questions from Tennessee fans for Kiffin who is on in the 11:00 hour. Someone please post this as a new thread as I don't have enough posts to do so. Should be entertaining. dp@danpatrick.com or link at danpatrick.com. He won't be afraid to ask the hard ones like Cowherd.

How many kids are going to commit 4 or 5 years to a University where they don't know who the coach is going to be after next year? After the interim we might get another pea-brain like Kiffum! Too many if's involved!

Thanks. I've read tons of rumors and opinions on here and i ask one question and "the experts" want me banned!

I remember when we were a perennial top 15 team, won our bowl games, were feared instead of made a mockery of...

*sigh* I feel like crying. Is THIS how bad its gotten??? We want to bring back the man responsible for the demise of the program, just for "stability" purposes?? How can the last 5 yrs of his tenure be described as anything but stable???

Now our target is a coach who's last name is synonymous with UGA?!?!?

I really do feel like crying.

Great idea...stop the bleeding..salvage the recruits and coach on the interim for a year then hand the keys over..I guess you Fulmer bashers wanna lure Kiffin back here or go after Petrino..gey over it..after it has all been said and done Fulmer is still Tennessee..Not some punk arse wannabe like Kiffin who has experience equal to a used car salesman..12-25 as a head coach and you all were on the Lane Train...Hell at least Fulmer loves this place...

I think that makes zero sense. Today, tomorrow, next week, or whenever, you've got to have someone to hitch your program's wagon to. If they decide they want Kippy to take over the program, then that's fine by me, but it has to be for more than one year or an "interim" basis. For better or worse, whoever they hire needs to be hired with the expectation of him of being the undisputed man for the next 3 years, minimum.

Kippy - no HC experience
Dooley- 3 years HC experience 17-20 record at La. Tech

Who do you have in mind for this 3 year contract?

I have nobody in particular in mind as the next HC. That post was more intended for a different thread that disappeared, but I didn't feel like retyping it to exactly fit here. I don't care who they hire (not Fulmer) but it has to be for the long haul, for better or worse. UT can't move forward with an "interim" HC. So, IMO, either (A) make a splash hire to try to salvage this year and attempt to maintain what momentum was generated in the 7-6 season, or (B) make a researched hire based more on the future of the program, knowing it could regress in the short term. Sticking with the interim plan, does neither. You don't move forward, and you don't build for the future either, which basically means you go backward.

This reaction is why it can not be Fulmer. Even if he is the last resort, the internet Vol fans would kill Hamilton. I think it is a bad idea, but it isn't the worst thing that could happen because the worst thing did just happen. Though, if it was for one year, Fulmer wouldn't do it and it would be a slap in the face to the man and to Vol fans that expect competence from the AD. Fulmer as interim coach only extends the uncertainty. It would keep the same situation we are in now going into next year and would solve nothing. There is no stability in a temporary coach. Fulmer as AD might just happen though. Hamilton is on the clock.....

I'm not saying hire Fulmer. I'm saying you can't find the right person in 3 or 4 days. Make him or Kippy interm and find a good fit between now and before spring practice starts.

You're not going to find a better person between now and spring practice than you would find between now and next week. An interim HC for any period beyond 1-2weeks is going to back to program up further than it already is. Got to hitch your wagon to Kippy or someone else soon and then ride it out. Hamilton knows this too and doesn't want this to be his last ride, IMO.
