You nailed it. Remember, our players range from 18-22 years old. They are not old farts like many of us. These young men enjoy the comraderie and approval of their teammates, coaches, and fans.
The garbage can is embarrassing ONLY because our team sucked. You don't read anything about the absurdity of those stupid pads UGA players put on. Those a corny as can be, but that defense was elite. So it's cool.
Remember Fulmer and his "Moses Rod" that he carried around during the 98' season to take them to "the Promised Land"? Never has a hit piece or joke been told about that because he DID it! Had that team lost to SU, UF, AU, Arky, and another, then that stick would have been memorialized as stupid.
Oh baloney. Bullhockey. Nuts to you. Phooey and scram.
That was a lesson in corny.
Now here's a lesson in cool.
1. The reason why roadwarrior shoulder pads are such an iconic symbol.
Because they are badazz. Probably one of the most badazz things in the history of badassery.
Deny all you want. But a short list of all the times those shoulder pads have been co-opted and the sheer proliferation of them throughout our culture and history is proof of that.
Gi Joe dreadnoks, wrestlings road warriors, the fallout video game series, the georgia bulldogs and fanbase, and many other movies, video games etc
It is straight post-apocalyptia canon. Sorry for your denial.
I was maybe 6 when I first saw the road warrior movie. My biggest takeaways was the shoulder pads. I made a custom pair for my son for Halloween when he was 11. Because one day, after watching fury road and the originals...he said.
"HEY Dad, you know what I wish I had? A pair of those road warrior shoulder pads"
Some things are just cool. Cultural appropriation is probably the best barometer for that. The true litmus test for cool.
Those spiky shoulder pads make the short list.
Now you list the cultural appropriations regarding cool trashcan imagery....
Oscar the grouch...garbage pail kids.
That's about it. Notice the embedded object lesson within?
It's straight up loser canon. That's the trash can connotation.
