I just saw a targeting call in the lsu - ala game that wasn't called. total helmet to helmet hit. I guess it's just what team ur if its called or not.

There was a hit on the Alabubba LSU game on the kick off that was much worse than this and not called at all. It was an Alabubba player and Verne and Gary applauded his play. I'd like it to be the same regardless of who's playing.

Get over it. I'm not the only one wondering it, I guess I was just the first to post it here.

Stupid post is still a stupid post...

This place is full of them so don't feel alone..

I like the aggressiveness and this targeting call was real close. It seems to me the officials are going to call more of these due to NCAA stance. So we've got to figure out how to back off just a bit.

That was not a close call. It was 100% targeting. one of the most obvious i've seen. Randolph deserved to be ejected.

Yeah, it really does. It makes UT look bad for absolutely no reason and with no basis. Why be that guy?

It looked bad anyway. I'm thinking one random post on a random message board isn't going to move the needle that much, sorry.

Yeah, I caught that too. Last kick return of the first half.

If it's Alabubba, it's a great football play, apparently. For us, even less is targeting.

I didn't think it was targeting but I did think it was a personal foul for late hit.

Anytime you lay a hit on someone and it contacts the helmet, the refs are gonna call it. That seems to be the trend this year

The difference on the Bama kickoff is the LSU player was a runner. Cooper was a defenseless player. This is why you never/rarely ever see targeting called versus running backs.

Losing Randolph hurt, but he deserved to be tossed for that hit.

I agree, but in his defense, he didn't see the corner deflect the ball so he was expecting the ball to be coming into Cooper's hands as he was hitting him...it was definitely an old school hit...he maybe was trying to impress Eric Berry...

Stupid decision by Randolph. He could have had an easy INT instead of leaving for the game, giving USC 15 yards, and almost giving Cooper a concussion.

Not to mention this just gives the stupid Cock fans more to crow about us being dirty. They still harp about Lattimore even though he himself said it wasn't a dirty hit.

Excellent point. You know he had a concussion. I can't believe he was put back on the field tonight much less as soon as he was. The boys bell was rung hard. He had a hold of his head and was shaking it

Losing BR for the game really hurt us later in the game on defense. He makes all the calls in the back end and what he doesn't have in the physical department, he makes up for by knowing where to be and what to call.

I thought this was another bad call. This seemed to be another great football play that was called,"targeting". I saw a shoulder hit to the chest and again we pay for it by losing a player. The big play hit in a game is going to be extinct within a few years. RIP real football.

Another W GO VOLS

I am one of the people that cringes everytime I hear the word targeting. Everytime I hear a ref say it, I wish demons would come out of the ground and drag him straight to hell along with the idiot that coined the term. The definition of it gets more nit picky every year. And I agree that the game is suffering due to it.

However, Randolph hit Cooper well after the ball got there. In fact the ball was 8 years away from where Randolph hit Cooper. The ref did not just call targeting. He called a personal foul with targeting. Which meant that the 15 yard penalty was happening even if the replay official said it was not targeting. The ref knew it was a dirty play, and was making sure it was penalized.

And as much as I hated losing him the rest of the night, by definition of the rules it was properly applied to him. Had one of SC's safeties hit one of our receivers like that, I would have expected him to be gone. In short, BR screwed up.

That was targeting at its finest. He did not even play the ball he want to hit him. I'm sorry I'm a vol fan but that was the dumbest play of the night.
