Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

Until the team starts winning a few ball games, the players should stop mouthing off and own up to the opposition playing better than them weekly.

Listen to them in post game interviews, they seem to own up to it every time they interview with the media. I'm kinda glad some of them are calling out the NegaVols as they've been a stain on the program ever since this mess started.

He messed up and I'm sure he's had that explained to him by now. I do think it was never meant as an indictment on the whole fan base, only a handful of dumbasses that attack these guys on social media (not here).

Combined with how he worded his message and the bad mood losing has brought on, and you get a large overreaction which has bordered on the ridiculous from a handful. Things like he should be dismissed from the team and someone telling him to go F himself... Seriously? Good grief....

He’s right in a lot of ways. The delivery might not have been the best way. I’ve been a UT fan as long as I can remember. Growing the up watching conredge holloway. Instead of attending UT, I went to APSU. So it’s not my school, but I always watched vol sports. But those that attended UT that is also their school and they’re team. Regardless if they played the game.

Seeing too many sports consumers calling themselves fans. Lots of these folks claim the protections of free speech when they throw it out there, but take exception when somebody throws it back.

Nothing wrong with critiquing on the field play as long as it doesn't get into character assassination and name calling..

Now calling Pruitt an idiot, on the other hand, is different...

I usually don’t do this but his comments really rubbed me the wrong way. Maurer can pound sand. Without us fans there is no reason to have a football team. The revenue that the fan base generates is the reason he is getting a FREE education,FREE HOUSING and FREE FOOD. I’m afraid it’s time for a major boycott of the football program. All we hear is be patient. Coach needs 4-5 years to install his players and system. I don’t have a crystal ball but the way I see it we’re not contending for sh!! next season.That’s year 4. Why on earth should we wait for 2 more years when we know things aren’t going to be much better. We haven’t gained an inch on FL,GA or Al in Pruitts 3 years at the helm.As a matter of fact we’re contending with Vandy for the last spot In the SEC and appear to be moving backwards.Put a end to this circus and move on now. We all know the right head coach can have you contending for conference titles by year 3. Fire Pruitt and he can take BM and JG with him.I have always been pro Phil but that is gone as well.If Phil won’t fire him he needs to hit the door as well. We have one of the top spending fan bases in the country. We demand a product worthy of our hard earned dollars!

Ever say something you didn't mean and regret it? I think that is where young Mr. Maurer may be living right now.... He's young, brash and made a mistake. I don't know him. obviously, but I am sure if you sat down and chatted with him he would agree that he framed that poorly.

I agree. Part of growing up is making mistakes and learning from them but you never bite the hand that feeds you.

I pretty much do that every day on here. You think my “costumers” don’t know I’m on here? Don’t know who I am? Think again. If anything, within my profession, it’s helped. So that didn’t work out quite like you’d planned did it?

My reading comprehension is spot on. I assume you work for NASA which is scary as hell given you can’t decipher who a kid is talking to in a simple tweet but have the audacity to call someone on THEIR comprehension. Context clues tell you everything you need to know. He was talking DIRECTLY to someone that made a snide comment to HIM directly. His comment included whoever he was talking to as well as anyone alike. Was it worded the best? Hell no. But the message was clear to anyone that “comprehends” what they read.

I really believe that he is as frustrated as we are. There is no doubt that a college athlete has pressure on them because of going to class, practice time, team meetings and film room time. I think we all need to agree it was the wrong execution of the right idea. Glad to see some fire still left in some of the players. Go Big Orange Fire away !

I honestly don't know how some of them juggle that load. The ones that do it successfully and graduate early, mad respect for them..

Two daughters who were recruited for softball didn’t understand how much work was required to be a student athlete. They both stated it was like having two jobs working 16 hours or more day in and day out.

You need to go back and read his short message again. As a former D1 athlete (baseball) , I will say that this post by BM is unacceptable.

1. Can fans be over the top? Yes
2. Do fans lack insider knowledge of situations? Yes

But, the fan base pays for everything, including his free education. And the fans also pay for the stadium, locker rooms, those xbox games in the players lounge, all the uniforms, and the platform that is SEC football. Right or wrong, the fan base is the heart beat of the program.

BM should quickly take down the post and issue an apology. Look, I was an immature kid when I played and I also regret many things that I did. Some things I did really hurt me. And I played baseball which gets zero attention. Adults in the room need to get involved quick.

I will have to take your word for it. I am not on any electronic communications tool other than this one... but I can only imagine what is out there. But free speech is what it is, and I find it two faced to come on a site and criticize a criticism of a criticism on any form of social media. I doubt that he was only referring to shots at him, but rather the entire program. based on what I read on here...
