Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

My fault. Thought you were suggesting he should be punished somehow. A lot of that going around.
If he is punished in any way I’ll lose what little faith I have for Pruitt. I get what he means but it’s short sighted and inherently flawed. That should be nothing more than a friendly sit down, ā€œhey, I like the passion kid but don’t do that and here’s why.ā€ Passionate young adult with a social media account. A lot worse adults with social media out there.

I agree with that. But Pruitt may surprise you.

You mean with the tweet?
Yes, Pruitts ass is blistering from the heat and Brian’s tweet only incites the fan base further. I don’t know if Pruitt won’t passively hold a grudge against the kid. As stupid as that would be.

I know they’ll never be caught out to eating dinner together but I do have to say that Pruitt seems unsure on what to do at qb. I can see why he nor Chaney are sold on Bailey just yet after watching the game. JT is good but he does throw it to the defense quite a bit and Maurer is the kind that speaks his mind that I’m sure doesn’t sit well with a guy like Pruitt. So I’m sure they’ve had words at some point.

What’s odd is he doesn’t need that tweet or anything else for that matter if he wanted to push him out. He could just do it behind the scenes as it seems he has been. However, he hasn’t been criticizing him like last year. He’s been giving him good reviews, just not playing him. Prepping him for the portal? Possibly. But he could be holding on loosely just in case Bailey isn’t what most hope as well.

I do think Brian can be a really good quarterback, for...someone. I like the way he plays, at least what we saw initially. I even like the spunky attitude, but he needs to think twice before engaging on twitter.

This is what I don't understand: He seems to be protective of the program and especially of JG, assuming his comments were on his behalf. This program has done him zero favors and if he does have the talent to see the field at the next level, he is allowing it to be absolutely squandered by this coaching staff.

If I had his ear for a day I would encourage him to light up that portal and find a program that utilizes an aggressive scheme. Find someone that can develop his talents, because I do believe he has them.

I don't know squat about developing quarterbacks or evaluating them. Some people do though, and he was thought highly enough of to make an Elite 11 camp. I feel like the dude is fighting for a program that doesn't give a crap about him or his potential.

You would understand better if you knew him. His HS didn’t do him any favors either and he knew he’d lose ā€œrankā€ by staying there but he’s loyal to a fault. Football is his life and his teammates are his family. Talking crap to his teammates in his eyes, you might as well just slapped his momma.

I understand and it's an admiral quality to have. The dude has higher aspirations though right? He doesn't need to be a martyr for UT. You should encourage him to think about his future. I am afraid it won't be found at UT.

Edit: I would not want to play against him after he spent a season under a Kiffin, Leach, or Mullen type. Someone that will accept the occasional dud because they know the fireworks will be worth it.

never wanted to twitter.
no intention to twitter 'cept in the bathroom.

seem twitter's downside eclipses its upside.

Let’s remember when criticizing a player’s twitter, we had covid worse than everyone else and it took away time from our social media training in the Spring. BM has only been able to tweet a few times this Fall bc Pruitt only read a couple before not giving him more opportunities. It’s not BM of CJP’s fault. Covid is the real culprit in this tweet.

I just hope everyone realizes there are some nasty, nasty people out there on Twitter -- think about all the Harvey Updike type of people -- and I wouldn't put it past certain people from rival fan bases to make an account as a fake Vol fan to try and drag down some college players.

Not a great look but at the same time.....he's not completely wrong.
Exactly what I thought VSF although you put it much more succinctly than what I was going to attempt to say. Reminds me of what my 90 year old (VFL) grandfather used to and still says to this day. ā€œThere are 2 sides to every story . There is what’s right and there is what’s wrong and somewhere in between lies the way that it really is ā€œ

I also think these wise words are applicable on both sides .....

butthurt

I do try to avoid say "we" are going to do this, etc.
However, I don't like the argument from players for a school or non-players who attended the school and/or financially support the school that someone who doesn't fit that description is somehow less important than they are.
Let's not forget, Maurer may not really care about the university and after a few years this will be over. Heck he may transfer. How is he any more important than a lifelong Vol fan?
Not to pick on him, because I have been extremely annoyed at the people who think that since they went to school there and financially support them, they are more important than the regular guy in Oregon who didn't even go to college but he flies his colors and buys appear when his budget allows him.
We're all in this together. We're all important. Peyton Manning was important but what about the people who recruited him and the people who paid those high profile assistants to begin with?
So not saying Maurer is incorrect, I just don't like that he went this route and has this mindset.

ā€œBlood, swear and tears...ā€

Ok Mr. Maurer, you might have me on 2 of 3, but I have no doubt everybody here has been swearing over the Vols for a very long time. šŸ˜›

Not to mention all the tix, tailgating, jerseys, sweatshirts, etc...do your 3-5, and get back with us 30-50 years from now.

Squire Maurer needs to be reminded that people work hard EVERY DAY in America. I spent most of my career in the Beef slaughter and processing industry. I wonder how long these young Olympians would last if they had to spend 12 hrs a day, 6 days a week on a kill floor just to feed their families?
Note to Brian:
Please don’t talk to us about ā€œ working hard and sweatingā€ like it makes YOU into something special.
