Brian Maurer may be gone?

harsh, but yeah. i don't blame him if there are better opportunities to play elsewhere. first response social media posts have a way of making everyone look immature. I prefer to pout in private, get over it a bit before i let everyone know how i feel :)
Yep, well said. Don't get me wrong, I hope the kid does well for himself. I just have issues with the "look at me" aspect of it.

No. So it is OK if someone rips you unfairly and publicly and lifts their leg on your reputation without knowing the details of your life or circumstance.... they can do so to 100's or thousands of people.... it is OK for them to be jackasses since they're not talking directly to you?

As far as 1vol8 goes, he knows I'm a UT fan and not especially a Maurer fan. Read my posts about the QB battle. I've liked Hooker while others wrote him off. I've said that none of them have Milton's upside if he can resolve his issues... which are near identical to Maurer's. You get WOW!!!!.... then you get wow. If Milton can become consistent then he has the ability to not only be UT's starter but the best QB in the SEC. He has top shelf physical ability.

Honestly Heupel has to do what's best for the team and sometimes that's not "fair" or what's best for a particular guy. It could be that he has two guys that show consistency and then two guys that don't. Maybe he chose to only carry one of the inconsistent guys forward in the competition... and that left Maurer out since Milton is more physically talented?

And... you still don't have to be a jerk toward or about the kid.
Jerks gonna jerk...

I've never quit on anything that I really wanted, but then again, I just kind of roll through life not really giving a sh!t about anything, especially a kid with zero life experience whining about how the mean coaches stole his dream after 4 days of camp.

Well maybe it is possible that you don't really understand the circumstances and should just acknowledge that you don't. Maybe silence in regard to something that your ignorant about is better than assuming he is something that he may not be since you don't know him personally. What I do know is when he played I was pulling for him and hoping the best for him, and I don't think he is a bad guy because he wants another chance with a team that will give it to him. But hey, I'm not a tough guy like you.

There are right ways and reasons to leave a job or situation like this. Even if he has the right reasons, IMO he is not doing it the right way. He cannot play this year. The worst that could happen if he stayed with the team is that he could support them, show a good attitude, continue to develop, and essentially build a good resume to land a good spot somewhere else.

Most young guys like him lack the wisdom to know that opportunities sometimes come unexpectedly if you have patience and don't make a habit of shooting your own foot. The guys Heupel thinks are best right now... might convince him otherwise by mid-season. There could be injuries.

Since this season would be lost to him regardless, he could have been #2 with an opportunity to move up behind whoever becomes the starter this year simply because the other two decided to move on.

I do not know his reasons. He may have good ones. But I think the way he appears to be leaving is unwise and not in HIS best interests.

I think you should stick with "I do not know his reasons" and quite trying to assume that you know what is best for him. That is the whole point of this discussion, if he wants to leave that is fine with him. It is not like he is leaving like Henry T, Crouch, Wanya, Gray or even Chandler where the team could have used him and he is letting them down for an individual reason. He is leaving for a dream. If he leaves today, enrolls with another school and starts practicing their system would that not be better for him?

For once, maybe we should consider the fact that we don't know what is best for people that we don't know, and stop the personal attacks against a young man that has done nothing but love the Vols.

Maurer wasn’t at practice today reportedly and will not be back . Wish him the best , lots of natural talent. Hopefully he figures everything out.

Hoping he'll get an opportunity elsewhere. He has talent, incredible prep stats, but not sure he was suited for this style of offense. He should land on his feet.

I'm so glad there was no social media when I was young. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what he said or says on social media. He wants to play college football at the quarterback position and he's smart enough to realize that won't happen at Tennessee. Good for him.

Best way I’ll can put this is Maurer habitually did the right thing the wrong way. That stuff absolutely can hurt the team. A disgruntled qb can absolutely cause toxicity within the locker room by what they say, post, or act.

It doesn't hurt the team if he is leaving. It will only be hurting the team if he stays and he does it again. From what I have seen of the young man he does not look to be a cancer. I saw him repeatedly congratulate other QBs that played in front of him last year. Just chill out, he is a young man who had his dream popped yesterday. I will judge Brian Mauer not on yesterday, but his whole career and he gave his all every time he competed. Best of luck young man!

Yeah, social media just breeds a narcissistic look whether it’s intended or not.

Good luck to him and I hope he finds a place where he can be healthy, happy and flourish.

Don't ask the question if you don't want to know my answer. Besides, why should I be silent about his decision when he made it public?

I don't recall anyone asking you a question. You offered an unsolicited opinion about the integrity of a young man. You did much more than comment on his decision, you attacked him personally for no reason. I can see your dilemma, if you are quiet on things you are ignorant about you would never get a word in anywhere.

Agree with your next to last paragraph. It’s hard to justify two high risk - high reward guys in the top three.

Exactly, none of them have alcohol and tobacco addictions, constant IBS, or marital issues directly related with long separations…
And none of them have put their life on the line so citizens can do things like get an education paid for by playing a game.

It must have been terrible last year for Brian when Pruitt would pull him from a game, while leaving an inept qb in the game who had thrown several interceptions. Brian played well against the toughest competition, while the other qb put up non-scoring stats. Pruitt used intimidation and humiliation tactics against Brian during games, for all to see. I do not know how he handled it, but I never heard or saw him complain.

Brian says he is a soldier, does that mean he’s staying at Tennessee? If he’s not the starter, and has to wait for the job to somehow “fall in his lap”, I hope he goes elsewhere, because I believe Brian can be a great quarterback.

As it is, if he leaves, we are stuck with 2 quarterbacks who couldn’t be the starting quarterback at the schools they left. I’ve always preferred more pro-style quarterback play, so if the qb choice was based on who looks tougher to take hits while running, I’m disappointed. This situation lessens my excitement about, and confidence in, the new Coach.

Good luck, Brian!

I think he could be a power 5 QB and have success. He needs to put the internet down and pick up some books.

Commenting on a whiny social media post is a far cry from a personal attack.

The days of recruiting as we know it are over until another change happens in regards to limiting options.

So, a guy we all thought was (and could have been) the best option for all of last year, is now not an option due to a much stronger QB room? This is not bad news at all. However, I wish him all the best. He sparked UT to victory on occasion and for that we are thankful.

Huh... I really thought he would tough it out and stick around.

Don't really like the tone of his Tweet. To "take away" would imply that something is given. You got to earn playing time, pal. CJH has made that clear from the beginning. I guess my comparison to Riley Ferguson was correct, even though deep down I thought he would stay.
