New Tennessee QB Brian Maurer got off to a great start against Georgia on Saturday night, and breathed new life into the Vols program. Despite the loss, Maurer reached out to fans to show his appreciation and vow to keep working.

“Vol Nation, Thank you for always showing up and supporting us,” he tweeted. “You guys have no idea how much you mean to us, I promise that as a team we are working to get back on the right track.
Please continue to show up and support us, Thank you.”

The kid is a gamer and his drive and fire is infectious. I have been high on this kid since his Elite 11 invitation. He has that competitive IT factor we have been needing for a LONG time. We could have us a good one here Nation.

We shall see.

I am happier and more confident about the rest of the season today after a loss to Georgia than I was after the win against UTC. Inserting Maurer changed the offense, which changed the defense. That looked like a totally different team.

Maurer has no fear...NONE...He is cool under pressure but is still young and will get even better with time...I loved watching his mom react when he scored those 2 td's...He's a good kid and we are lucky to have him...Just keep the faith and let him develop.

K-town will be tweeting shortly for JG... hoping he updates the stats too.

I will say though kudos to JG for supporting BM during the game, readily coming in for BM when needed, and not sitting on the bench by himself and sulking. What he is going through can't be easy because he so very badly wanted to be the QB to start UT's return to prominence, so thanks, JG, for being a team player.
