Well, on the bright side, guess we'll get to see what some of the younger guys are made of. They'll get some good experience

I say let's get Josh Briscoe, Slick Shelly, and Quinton Hancock going. Hancock is from Florida, so you know he has speed as a wideout. Let's make a call to Memphis and see if they would like to have Lucas Taylor.

I think that Hancock is injured and applied for a med red shirt.

Smith stepped up big time when Swain got hurt. This is a really big loss for us, b/c the younger guys arent playing very well.

Where has Slick Shelley been all year? Could he possibly be a factor in this game?

I just dont have faith in Taylor and Briscoe.

It is too bad, but I agree, he only had to pass 6 hours to be eligible..

Austin Rodgers is redshirted since he missed so much of the season with injurys and sickness so I guess it'll be Josh Briscoe

TAMPA, Fla. -- Tennessee wide receiver Bret Smith has been declared academically ineligible to play in the Outback Bowl on Monday against Penn State.

"After examining further Bret's academic performance this semester, the institution determined that he is not eligible to participate in the bowl game," UT athletics director Mike Hamilton said Saturday.

"The University of Tennessee has strong academic programs, and we want our student-athletes to achieve great things in the classroom as well as on the field."

Head coach Phillip Fulmer said he's disappointed Smith won't play.

"However, our academic processes are important to us all, and we will follow academic procedures and err on the side of caution," Fulmer said.

A senior, Smith had a career-high 39 catches, 453 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Bret didn't get his GPA high enough in the field of his degree. He needed a C instead of the D that he received.

Bret has been sent home.

It almost seems demeaning the school lets everyone in the world know this.I understand letting everyone know about drug violations and such. These are two different avenues of failure no?
