Just wanted some insight on why people are still saying that Vinson is the projected starting CB despite not participating in spring practice or the majority of fall practice?!?! I know the guy has an amazing amount of potential, but why have we not heard of CJ Fleming this fall (I know there were rumors of him being kicked off for grades, but he was there for the first day) despite hearing of him a lot in the spring?? Just find it weird that Vinson is considered the projected starter despite not "competing" against anyone.. Do you all think he really will be the starter against WKU?

yeah but art evans, anthony anderson, and cj fleming have all supposedly had either a great spring or a great fall.. whereas vinson has had neither... Just find it weird that he is still projected as the starter and Rogan is not...

Kiffin said that only one starter has been named and that is berry. The magazines list the projected starters to who they think will start, not what kiffin has named.

btrotter is trying to tell you it doesn't matter what anyone says right now. Columnists pre-season opinions are equivalent to reading the National Enquirer. Entertainment only and very little truth.

Cornerback is one of three position battles highlighted in Chatt. paper article (Rucker) that is linked from today's govolsxtra.com. Implies starters could yet come from among at least a half dozen guys.

It would seem like the injured Vinson is only one offering combination of size/athleticism and experience in the position. Rogan has experience but is a bit smaller and also valuable at safety. Evans and Anderson have more size/athl but little experience. Johnson has experience but lacks size and I would say his track record as cb is mixed results. Fleming both small and green but if he can beat out the others, more power to him. I bet at least 4 different guys play there vs WKU and I'd say there's a good chance that the starters for first game won't necessarily be the starters for the second. So its largely a question of how fast Vinson and Evans can get healed up and game-ready.

I realize what he was trying to say, and of course it doesn't matter what anyone says right now, just like pre-season polls don't matter and just like verbal commitments don't matter b/c they can still change their mind. However, my question was why were people saying Vinson and not someone else is the projected starter and do you all think he really will start against WKU??

I think Vinson will start against WKU, and probably Rogan at FS when it really comes down to it. Evans has one CB spot on lockdown and we know about Berry. I think the coaches love the players competing for the starting spots, but gametime experience will be the deciding factor...

That is interesting about Rogan, b/c I tend to agree with you. The guy has quite a few starts under his belt and yet has seemed to have disappeared in the offseason (outside of his pick 6 yesterday I had rarely heard of him), and yet C.J. Fleming was getting all types of hype in the Spring and now he isn't getting mentioned that much... I am very interested to see how our lineup and depth works out there and at WR for sure...
