Brent Hubbs has been told that Monte will join Lane's staff.

more nepotism
Maybe, but it is not like the people he will be hiring are not qualified to be on staff.

Reaves is more than qualified to be a positions coach
Monte is more than qualified to be a DC
Chris hasn't even been mentioned as a possibility, but could join the staff as a GA. He is currently a GA at Nebraska.

reaves sounds more like a recruiting coordinator
he's QB coach in name only at USCe, even if he was teh QB coach what's Garcia done

Monte's a homerun, if he comes

Low mentioned Chris FWIW.

Reaves has shown no ability to be a good QB coach. You are right. That doesn't mean he can't be a good QB coach. Surely he has learned something from Spurrier who is a QB guru despite the problems USCe has had this year.

What we do know is that he is one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation and that Cock fans are pissed that he is leaving. I think he will very well be worth it.

Reaves is one of the names I have reservations about. Sure he's learned under a great QB coach, but he doesn't do a whole lot. Spurrier is widely known to do most of the development. And like other's have said, that QB situation is bad, although Garcia is the only guy with real talent on that roster.

He does have experience in the SEC though, which is important, and he is an awesome recruiter and a guy that the kids like, which is important to have if you are a guy with a reputation of being stand-offish. (good cop/bad cop scenario?)

I just hope he is no more than a QB coach.

In his first year as recruiting coordinator, Reaves, the Gamecocks' quarterback coach, put the plan in place for Steve Spurrier to land the best class in school history. Reaves signed seven players with an average star rating of 3.71. He pulled in high-profile players such as quarterback Stephen Garcia, defensive end Cliff Matthews, offensive lineman Quintin Richardson and athlete Mark Barnes, among others. The Gamecocks finished with the nation's No. 6 recruiting class, and Reaves was a big part of it.
From rivals.

Actually the USC fans I have talked to have said "Good. Take him."

I haven't heard anyone say that. Most I have seen are extremely disapointed that they will be losing such a good recruiter. They were a little underwhelmed by his development skills but he was a great recruiter for them.

I interact with USC fans on a daily basis over at Talk and that is the consensus with them. They don't deny that he can recruit, but no one is upset that he is leaving. They say he is replaceable.

Of course I would have the same reaction if a coach was departing to a rival SEC school and likely taking two of their top recruiting prospects with him. Take it FWIW.

I think he will be a good addition and I wouldn't put too much stock in what the USC fans think.

That is a good rule to remember in all situations.

Hope I'm wrong. Bad hire.Up here in Ky.theyre lovin Kiffin's hire. He's not good folks.Uk went after one coach only once and got tubby and drifted into mediocrity. I hope the same thing doesnt happen to UT.

ESPN just said Monte is probably coming, taking a major pay cut but still coming. COme on Dad help your son out.

yeah, because the people in KY know all about hiring and firing good coaches. I couldn't care less what fans from a team that has lost 24 straight to one school think.

It was Chris Mortenson reporting, said it would be REMARKABLE for TN to get him!

Dang, beat me too it!!!:) If Monte comes then the rest of the SEC had better sit up and take notice!! Man this is shaping up to be a dream staff!
