You do it to help your kid. It's the family business...you do it to help him get established. It may seem simple, and it may not make any sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to me.

is this implying that Kiffin's not ready to be the HC at Tennessee

The highest paid coordinators in the SEC are the 2 coordinators at LSU who make 400k each:

ESPN.com - High profile, big paychecks not just for head coaches anymore

So you think Hamilton is going to pay Monty almost 3 times what the highest paid cooridinator in college makes? That's hard for me to believe....

The reason I believe he would be is this...

If there was a huge hire like Gruden...he would have not come to UT for any less than 4-5 mil...now I have no source on that, just my gut.

If Hamilton was willing to hire and pay someone for that...which I believe he would. Why would he not hire a big Asst like Monte for a mil? That would be a huge splash. And you also get 2 coaches, one a proven great recruiter(Lane), and a well respected defensive mind(Monte) for less than what you could have gotten a Gruden, and about equal to a Butch Davis.

If you look at it that way, I believe it is good business move.

The fact that so many sources are reporting that Monte will follow his son into the college coaching ranks....seems sufficient to me to have hope that it can happen.

No need to pizz on that campfire yet....I am thinking that Hamilton has more up his sleeve than he is being given credit for. Lets see how this plays out over the week or so.

A top notch group of new faces coaching at TN would be awesome....they need to put some fightback into the team.

Most of you do know that the NFL is quite a bit different than College right? The last time he was coaching in the college ranks was back in the early 80's right?

Does that not make anyone pause for a minute?

and from the looks of it, he's capitalizing off his Dad
especially if Hamilton told him he had to bring his Dad with him

bring my dad in, when I've gotten promoted
NO

Are you serious? Lane Kiffin has direct access to one of the greatest defensive minds in football and you really expect him to say "Thanks, but no thanks" ?? Please.

Yeah, college defenses are much more complex than those simplistic pros.

Monty Kiffin got a contract extension the first of this year that pays 2 million dollars a year to be the Bucs Defensive coordinator.

ESPN - Bucs agree to multiyear contract extension with defensive coordinator Kiffin - NFL

Cutcliffe's last year at UT as a coordinator he was paid 340k. I still don't believe he will take a 1.5 million dollar paycut to come here or that Hamilton is ready to pay him a million dollars a year to be the coordinator.

How many times are you going to post the same thing?

Those who are worried about Monte's role in recruiting should think about this, He is a well known name in the sport of football, He would not even have to work hard to get recruits to come to UT...His name alone would bring them here, I mean if your a defensive player in high school and You have a once in a lifetime chance to learn under a legend like Monte Kiffin, Are You going to say no?....HELL NO!...The man knows what it takes to get to the NFL and that's every kids dream.

Special circumstances. Lane's dad is one of the greatest defensive coaches in the history of the sport. It makes sense to have him join Lane's team.

I highly doubt your father is as legendary in his line of work...so why would he join your staff at Arby's?

Well earlier he said it was "Good News". Now he is arguing against it. Does he have a split personality or is he a miserable person not happy about anything?

Seriously, I think my head might explode trying to keep up.

We want to win. If Lane's our coach, Monte joining him only gets us closer to that goal. Arguing about whether or not Monte is coming is one thing. Arguing about whether or not it will help us win is absolutely moronic.

I think this would be good for the vols. I think lane would have more control over the team and what he wants to accomplish, compared to a bunch of pro athletes who probably didnt listen to him, And also an owner of a sunken franchise who would not keep his nose out of the way.

You do realize Monty is making 2 million a year as DC for the Bucs now?

I comprehend it. It's called retirement. Why take a 1 million dollar pay cutout with all the stress of coaching and working 16 hr days, when you can simply retire.
why would he need the extra money? he has more than enough and there's something called NFL pension
