Brent Hubbs has been told that Monte will join Lane's staff.

Man I hope this staff comes together as expected and the recruiting noise that I am hearing comes through...we could be sitting pretty for a decent season even next year!

This is just a gut feeling, not based on any inside info or rumor, but I just don't see Mike Hamilton turning the reins over to a 33-year-old coach without some sort of "wink and a nod" assurance that Monte would be part of the package, regardless of what kind of potential Hamilton sees in Lane.

I am fairly positive that Hamilton asked who would be on Lane's staff before he hired him.

I was thinking the same thing. Hamilton knows his neck is on the line with this hire. This staff will be impressive I'm sure.

Are you kidding. According to Vols5150, Hammy is an idiot who has no idea what he is doing. :birgits_giggle:

I would love to have Coach Ohmygawd on the defensive staff. He also is a great recruiter which we need since we dont have a lot of in state talent.

This is fantastic news.

I don't care if you like Lane or not, but if he actually pulls in half of the names that are being thrown around for this staff next year, we'll have arguably the best set of coaches in the nation.

Monty Kiffin got a contract extension the first of this year that pays 2 million dollars a year to be the Bucs Defensive coordinator.

ESPN - Bucs agree to multiyear contract extension with defensive coordinator Kiffin - NFL

Cutcliffe's last year at UT as a coordinator he was paid 340k. I still don't believe he will take a 1.5 million dollar paycut to come here or that Hamilton is ready to pay him a million dollars a year to be the coordinator.

He already qualifies for the NFL pension. That would supplement it some

I believe he is ready to pay that. We heard for a while that if Gruden came we could expect a 3-5 million dollar salary. If its true that we are hiring Kiffin around the 2.4 million range...it would be very feasible to throw a mil or so at Monte...and IMO I think that was structured from day one when Lane was considered for the job. Hammy knows what he is doing...I don't believe he hires a 33 year old without college HC experience without having a deal like this in place.

Its not always about the money.

The question is this; "Is blood thicker than money?" Would dad come to help his son get established?
