Walker @ DE, showed signs last year
Walls @ DT, speed will be hard to block, if indeed he is a DT.

I agree with you on Walker but I really haven't seen enough of Walls to decide whether or not I think he can make an impact as a freshman. I'm still suprised Walls will be at DT though.

He is physically ready I think.(reported 275 lbs.) We had a guy that had to move inside from DE a few years ago, and he was not any bigger. I can't think of his name tho'.

What about mentally? Do you know if Monte's scheme is complicated for the inside guys or is is real basic?

Someone mentioned Warren on the D-line, him at D-End and and Walls at DT would make up one fast defensive front. Use those guys on passing downs and i'm not sure there are many O-lines that could keep them from the QB

He was a DE out of HS, wasn't he Lofton?

Yes...him and Sykes both.

Sykes has made it known he'd love to see him over on D.

I just think it could happen. He doesn't seem to be the type of TE that would fit in CLK's system. He would be more of a hybrid slot guy than a prototypical TE.

Offensively, do you see any simularities in him to Chris Brown?

Does Kiffin even like to utilize the TE in the passing game much? And if so is it more dump passes or are they used more downfield?

I see him being used much in the same role as Chris Brown. However I don't know if he could ever get to that level. I have heard questions of his work ethic...but then again being underutilized after a long summer of waiting to see if you're even going to be eligible or not could take something out of just about anyone.

The TE in CLK's system will be a great priority. Most importantly to be able to run block, but also to slip out often times to expose the middle of the field.

True. What has me most anxious about this staff is the fact I will know without a shadow of a doubt the best possible players will be on the field come Saturday...

The guys who want it will be on the field too, not just necessarly the best ones. I remember reading about how USC had wednesday "competition" practices that were said to be harder than the games that decided who saw the field that week. I'd love to see Kiffin use something like that.

Competition brings out the best in the best and the worst in the worst...

That's true. I'm still all for it though, especially with the group of runningbacks we have. You saw how they played when they got in over Foster, and how much harder they ran the ball. I think that's just an example of how the guys will play harder if you give them their chances that they work for and deserve

Im going to say brent vinson. warren will have a much better year with this system, but i think vinson will be moved to offense. he was recruited as a 5 * WR. with us having all these new cb's id say they will move him there and he will have a great year.

not to insult you, but if this coaching staff moves Brent Vinson to offense, they're stupid. Vinson had some of the worst hands of an incoming WR a couple of years ago and still can't catch a cold. he's best suited at CB. and I wouldn't bank on the freshmen coming in and starting from day 1 at CB

Great thread. I like your first 4 named, hope for bust-out for Donald and would imagine Walker would start at DE along with Martin.

But I am looking for Langley to make a positive move for us, would love to see Gerald Williams wreaking havoc at mlb, and in preseason last summer all our senior dbs were saying watch for Art Evans. OK, Art, its time now.

I think Savion Frazior will be the other outside backer to step up...I also think GW is going to break some skulls wether it be on the line or as a backer(you don't need to remind me that the mlb will need to be fast....phooey)...Vinson is a player(his hands aren't that bad, it's all about confidence) I expect him to make some big plays on O or D. JJ is probably going to be EBs compliment...I just don't see Morley beating him out, unless he has a change of attitude. I expect Dan Williams to dominate. Paige will have a breakout year, and I think we'll see Creer pull ahead to become the main back...but we'll also see Toney Williams some IMO.
But the question on everyone's mind is QB...I just have no idea which of our 3 will grow a pair and be the leader of the offense. If I had to pick one it would be Crompton...I think Chaney is the key that unlocks the door to let out all of that talent we saw in the Army AA game. peace

I don't think Williams has much of a shot being a MLB in CMK's defense.

not to be rude, but did you read the thread title? "breakthrough" that means you have to have done nothing already. Thy Lord Rod Wilks has already accomplished more than any other athlete in the history of sports

Yes, but wait til you see him this year.

Was Wilks injury redshirted in '08?

I'd like to see us use Warren more honestly, never thought he was given much of a chance.

Janzen Jackson will be playing CB or S? I hope CB, hopefully Evans/Myles can step up and provide some S depth

Depends on where we need him now. But he'll be a safety after this year. Also think Waggner will become a good player for us.
