BREAKING: Tennessee officials discussing football coach Butch Jones immediate future

I don't have sources, but my gut tells me that Butch will continue to coach until we exceed 6 losses. My gut also tells me that the board of trustees along with the Haslams continue to be the problem. Every AD hire over the last 20 or so years have been 'yes men' which is what the powers that be want. That's why Blackburn didn't get the AD job. That's why Fulmer didn't get the AD job. Those guys really care about winning, not padding the pockets of the trustees and the Haslams.

Bottom line is this: the only way to get the attention of those calling the shots at UT is to stop buying merchandise and stop showing up at games. They speak only one language, and that language is dollars and cents. We as fans need to start speaking it too.

Yep. Hopefully next Saturday, on a cold night vs a poor non conference opponent, Neyland will be no more than 60% full and a resounding message will be sent.

You sure about that? Then why did he not coach the Kentucky game/last game of the season but did coach all the others? Makes no sense.

Because up till the Vandy game we still had a chance to be bowl eligible and once we lost to them we weren't. Kentucky was meaningless then.

Once again, if we had "cause" he would be gone. FL fired their coach for cause, don't pass go, don't collect $12.9mm.

All I’ve seen is “UF and McElwain agree to part ways”, which tells me there was a negotiated settlement. I’ve seen nothing about him being fired for cause and being sent on his way with no cash. Did I miss that?

My source never said our financial situation was bad. He said it was finally good and they didn’t want to jeopardize that by paying another buyout. Also our APR is 972, which is absolutely good enough to get a bowl at 5-7. Teams with lower APRs have made bowls the past several years. So you are actually the one who is blatantly wrong here.

Not it’s not good enough. You are blatantly wrong.

Tennessee cannot count on APR score for a bowl bid with only 5 wins

That’s Jerry Palm. Not SDS.

We are too far down the list. There are too many schools with potential 5-7 records above us.

And here we are #52 in the country of 129.

At least it is higher than our AP/Coaches ranking.

Sorry for the facts again and showing my ignorance which completely proves your statement wrong...again

SIAP, this week's media schedule just arrived from UTAD showing Butch availability for tomorrow and Wednesday. Take it for what it's worth.

It's gotta come soon. I really think he's coached his last game here.

If he was legitimately fired, why would he have any reason to coach? Losing/Winning would no longer matter for his future.

Because they won't fire him until the end of the season which saves UT buyout money.

Reports on ESPNU XM was a $10 million buyout.

Hey look at this way. I just proved that Currie can fire Butch’s tail as soon as we get 7 losses because we ain’t going bowling at 5-7.

So get on it Currie!

And since when did if we can or can not make a bowl game the standard anyways?!!!!

Currie and Butch did meet earlier today but it was about alternate uniforms and a marketing campaign UT is working on.

Yea Right....end of season marketing campaign...

He finally opened up to me a little bit, and he said the talk within the department is that Currie really doesn’t want to replace any major coaches, such as football and men’s / women’s basketball, in his first year.

Friend High up but not to low...does not make sense....If Currie did not want to make these type decisions he should not have been hired in the first place....This is his job....the job he was hired to do...

Also, apparently the Chancellor and President are believed to have put some pressure on Currie to keep things the same for now, as they feel the athletic department has finally turned a corner financially, and they don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a buyout right now.

Money talks but look at the long term affect... another cop out.

He said the boosters definitely are putting pressure in the other direction, but he states the boosters really don’t have as much influence this time around, at least not as much as a lot of people think...he said it’s more important what the Chancellor and President want to do.

Boosters have been burnt at the stake...

Plus he said our new Chancellor feels like our boosters have had too much influence on the AD in the past.

Money talks this is another cop out....

And then there is also the problem of trying to get the boosters on the same page in terms of a replacement. He thinks that if a move is made, it won’t be until after the season.

The Boosters either have influence or they dont. This is a contradiction to above...

And if Butch makes a bowl game, the administration will definitely try to keep him. well its obvious that Currie will not fire him, and it is obvious that the fans and boosters cannot...so I guess it is up to the Administration.

Currie will not fire him so he is shifting the blame to the administration...

Plus he said we will likely make a bowl at 5-7 due to our improved APR and how well the fans travel. He said if attendance really falls off, that might change their minds.

This team should not accept a bowl game at 5-7.... embarrassment not due to them but to the lack of coaching....

This is a cover your back side statement....this is chicken crap way of doing buisness..

He wanted to emphasize that this is just what he had heard within the AD and as of now, should just be considered rumors...none of this came from Currie himself. He did add, however, that he personally thinks we will end up going 4-8 and a change will have to be made.

Another ooooh no.....

But if we somehow make a bowl, he said not to be surprised if they just try to sell this as one down year due to new quarterbacks and a lot of injuries.

Problem is not injuries it is coaching.....

Nothing personal but this is a crock of stepping around the issue....We have an AD that was hired to do a job and cannot do it because he has not been given the ok by the Administration and the boosters. So he bleeds orange but is a typical Yes Man.....wow.

Accept Mediocrity because you are going to love it...
