Breaking news Gruden new Raiders Coach

100 Million Reasons.

And a piece of the pie.

I've got mixed feelings about this as a Raider fan from birth. Haven't had much to cheer for lately but I'm sure seeing this egocentric jerk on the Raiders sideline again will be pinging the nostalgia chords. Hate the move to Vegas though.

I agree but at the same time, I dont blame them. The city of Oakland really drug their feet when it came to building the Raiders a new stadium and when they finally got serious about it, it was too late. IMO the blame lies squarely on Oakland and its elected officials.

Also, I think Vegas is a great fit! Theres something rather fitting about the NFL's bad boys making Sin City their home.

No doubt Oakland elected officials shoulder most of the blame, but I think bowl cut wanted to leave. There were some good proposals, albeit very late in the game as you mentioned.

I think a fair amount of fans from Oakland will go to games in Vegas, and obviously a large contingent will come from LA.

May he have a very long and very successful (or very short and very disasterous) career with the Raiders.

So we won't hear about him from Boro-Tool, Little-D-Tool, knuckletool, MITool_beaver, UToolVolinExile, etc ever again.

I just watched the presser. You can REALLY tell that Jon loves the Raiders! His excitement was definitely palpable! He admitted that the reason he waited to get back into coaching was for THIS opportunity! He wanted to coach THIS team. He said he never wanted to leave Oakland the first time and he wants to finish his career as a Raider. He also feels he has "unfinished business" at Oakland. At one point he addresses Woodson in the crowd and tells him "Brady fumbled that ball, didnt he Charles!" LMAO!

Also as a lifelong Raider fan, I was completely geeking out at all the former players I saw at the presser! Dave Casper, Howie Long, Cliff Branch, Charles Woodson, Coach Flores, Jerry Rice, Ted Hendricks, Jim Otto, etc.

This came on local radio as I was in the car for lunch so I only heard the beginning, but you could tell he was genuinely excited. Also, Davis was nearly in tears. Many of the players from the 70s are still among my favorite NFL players.

Absolutely! Upshaw, Shell, Branch, Villapiano, Hendricks, Stabler, Casper, Tatum, Martin, Sistrunk, Hayes, Dalby, etc. Loved all those players!

I tell people all the time that growing up in the 70's. 3 things defined my childhood, Star Wars, KISS, and the Oakland Raiders!

All of those, Otis was one of my favorites, and I will add Biletnikoff - also one of my favorites - van Eeghen, Matuszak and the greatest punter of all time.

As a 70s kid I agree with those. One of my best friends is a lifelong Broncos fan. At the start of one the games this year I sent her a photo of me as a child in my Raiders pjs, she was not impressed.

So Tee is interviewing a 2nd time for the Raiders, possibly for the WR position on Gruden's staff.

Contract is ridiculous no wonder the Bucs told him **** off if he tried to get anywhere near that

10 years garunteed money smh I hope this doesn’t become a trend

Where’s the incentive to actually win games and keep winnings after signing a contract like that

And this idiot that owns the Raiders wanted Oakland to build him a stadium ?

Grade A
Oakland Raiders: Jon Gruden

Two things need to be addressed right away. First, Gruden’s contract doesn’t matter, unless you’re Raiders owner Mark Davis’ accountant. The Raiders had to pay big to get Gruden out of the ESPN booth. His 10-year, $100 million deal doesn’t count against the salary cap, presumably won’t preclude the Raiders from signing players and Davis understands the fallout if it doesn’t work out. The only person the deal affects is Davis and his bank account. Too much attention is paid to what Gruden is getting paid. Second, this hire might not work out. Gruden’s last playoff win was Super Bowl XXXVII, 16 years ago. His final six seasons with the Buccaneers produced a 45-51 record. Gruden hasn’t coached since 2008. He has been in the game as a commentator, but it’s not the same as coaching. There are reasons to be wary.

All that said, the Raiders couldn’t have done better. Gruden was the white whale of coaching searches for years, for good reason. He was highly successful with the Raiders and Buccaneers. He has a Super Bowl ring, and you won’t find another available coach who can say that. Gruden re-energizes the Raiders after a bad season, he should be good for Derek Carr’s development, and he’s a perfect face of the franchise for their eventual move to Las Vegas. We don’t know how it will turn out, but this was a heck of a hire.

Last 6 seasons 45-51 That is not good got a feeling this aint gonna be good hire..
We sure built him up put him on a pedestal..

Reason why I didn’t understand the love. 10 years ago he was mediocre. 10 years. Hasn’t coached since then.

I do think he is a good coach though.

I didn't get why the Bucs fired him. He had winning seasons 3 of his last 4 years. His last 2 seasons were both winning seasons and he was shuffling a 38 YO Jeff Garcia with Luke McCown and Brian Griese.

Shocking that this gets released on the same day the the NFLPA is voting on whether or not to retain DeMaurice Smith.
.... and after 10 years???? It's no coincidence in timing. That's for sure.

This is surprising from Gruden, though. I don't think he is a racist, but this does show incredibly bad judgment that he put something like that in an e-mail.

I don't see his comments as racist. I have known white people with big lips. This is just stupid to me and racist that it's called racist.
