Breaking inside story about QB situation and Crompton

The use of the TE is a major difference. Where they line up and how there used for more than blocking. Also the alignment of the WR is different and motion. They have used trips several times and not every damned pass is a screen.

The offensive game plan is different but the success rate is the same, mostly due to terrible QB play.

Exactly. They've also brought back the FB. However, Beef, the biggest difference as you said, is the different ways we are using the TE.

If you watch the game Mania, you'll notice receivers all over the field (usually open), but Crompton just can't get the ball to them. An average qb could really flourish in this system. I can't wait to see what Stephens will do.

This, once again, proves how ridiculously conservative Fulmer is...any other coach would have at least looked into the options for another qb after the ucla game...it just seems like Crompton and Foster are predetermined starters and nothing will change that. I'm not a big Fulmer basher at all, but I am turning into one.

I guess, I was intrigued by all the motion and spread at the beginning of the ucla game. now it seems we are back to old school.

Thanks for the info.

Why do you think Fulmer refused to recognize the problem with Crompton and try the other one?

It's easier to see in person, but yes receivers are open.

I'd love to see a QB that will go through his reads in this offense.

Cooper and Warren will catch a lot passes in wide open spaces if the QB play improves, not to mention WRs will see a lot of open looks too

trust me i know the recievers are wide open. i was telling another tn fan that i watch the game w/ that if we had a mediocre qb that we would be at least 3 and 1. would you say this is the similar to when witten was here?

If this is true, I guess you can't really hire outside of the family with Fulmer. He gives that impression but does not give them the chance to do their jobs sucessfully. Now the facial expression of Clawson in the pressbox at UCLA and the verbal "Wow" at Auburn after JC threw a 3rd and 4 pass 10 yards out of bounds would make more sense.
I almost came out of the upper deck on that one. There was some cussing going on in Section 100 (under my breath though, there was a little girl next to me). :furious3:

i saw it countless times sitting in the north end zone of the Florida game and I've noticed in just about every replay they show from up high that we have open receivers. It's very discouraging.

One more thing: Does it make sense that Fulmer would not let Clawson make a QB chance, or examine it? I don't think he would have told Cutcliffe to stay with Crompton, but yea, I can see him f-cking with Clawson, because he's a new guy and they have no history together. We've heard stories for years about Fulmer meddling with the offense during the Sanders years, but it's hard to know how true they are. We saw major improvement when Cutcliffe returned--and I very much doubt that Fulmer messed with him. But Clawson? He supposedly was going to let the new OC do his thing--but he probably hasn't. The first half of this will have a //very bad// effect on the program--there is much disarray, recruits are reconsidering. Something needs to be done soon. Hamilton and the money men are really gonna be on the spot in about two/three weeks.

Or it's very encouraging depending on how you look at it. A new QB will hopefully find those open guys 12-15 times a game.

i was thinking about that as I typed my last post.

It was extremely discouraging constantly seeing them open against Auburn though.

I had my back turned when the reporter started the second half talking about a QB change. I was sky high until i turned around and realized she was talking to Tommy Tuberville.

Similar, except too often we just used Witten as a decoy to get defenders away from the other receivers. Now, the TEs are a primary target.

It led to me throwing my hat like Spurrier throws his visor

I've said it before, we first had Cut, then Sanders, Cut again and now Clawson yet we're seeing basically the same style of offense but we do have the same HC.

I have no doubt Fulmer brought Clawson in but with "restrictions". This so-called "open QB job" is nothing more than a smoke screen. Fulmer is afraid he'll be proven wrong!

It's funny how the circle turns........one of the big raps on Majors was that he was inflexible and would not collaborate with his assistants. If the rumors turnout to be true, I feel really bad for Clawson. I am also amazed that Fulmer would tie the success of the program to loyalty for a non-functioning QB.

Amazing.

again, I can't help but feel the inept QB play is causing this feeling. Everything about the offense is different from a year ago.

I'll just add this, Mania you were talking about how different we look from the UCLA game, realize that Clawson and even Fulmer have admitted to dumbing down the playbook to try and make it easier on Crompton.

I dont see why he's taking up with crompton so much. He didn't do this with Ainge/Shaeffer, he gave them both an equal shot on the field. Fulmer has changed just in the last 3 years dramatically..

I made a very similar post in another thread yesterday. If we sucked all around it wouldnt be as frustrating because we would at least be hopeless. But knowing how well other areas of the team are playing makes it extremely frustrating that the horrendous play of one player is having such a detrimental imapct on the overall team performance.

getting a new qb who would be decent is bitter sweet. i'd be glad we wld have someone that was capable of making the right reads which would in turn make us competitive. then again, winning games secures fulmers job.

Yep.

The DL has been pretty solid, Williams looks to be a very good DT. The pass rush is lacking but Martin and Walker have been getting more and more playing time.

The secondary has played well.

The running game has showed life at times.

There's really nothing to complain about other than QB play

There is a receiver that has rode the pine all year and has yet to see the field. He didn't even travel to Auburn with the team.

He has been voted 2nd best receiver by his teammates. He's the 2nd fastest player on the team. He's very smart and runs precise routes.

Some of his family want him to transfer.

I bet Fulmer starts Crompton again Saturday. I will be surprised if he don't. He will start and Stephens will probably come in for a few series. Crompton is Fulmer's boy and he is determined to let him start because the poor baby waited 3 seasons for his chance. Bless his little heart.

Makes me wanna puke! :yuck:
