Here is what I have been told:

This is the first I had heard regarding Dooley decision already being made. Hart has obviously made a strong push for the HR hire. This offer is strong and shows UT is serious.
Man I hope you are right.

BTW, I was not in any way attacking your credibility, I really like your updates. It just seems too good to be true.

Why? He won a SuperBowl.

In 2002. With Tony Dungy's Players. In 10 years he finished at or below .500 five times. Would that be acceptable at Tennessee? He has no proven success on the college level and is a gamble hire at best.

Gruden is just a big name with a wife who happened to live in East Tennessee.

Lane Kiffin, Pete Carroll and arguably even Nick Saban had worse resumes when they were hired.

This could be a valid argument, if he did not play Oakland in that Super Bowl.

This has been debunked about a thousand times. Almost all NFL coaches have .500 winning percentages.

What's next--are you going to tell us Dooley needs more time?

God, I hope he turns this down. This hire is a massive mistake.

Tell me one thing that makes this a mistake? He will bring recruiting to an absolute another level. He has the face and name that will have us in top 5in classes every year. Is a huge disciplinarian and wont let a few players dictate how things are ran. Could put an allstar type coaching staff together. Is a great x's and o's coach and will instantly be top 5 coach in college football, but closer to 1 than to 5. Will bring immediate excitement back to the hill and fanbase. Wont be anymore opposing teams being able to jump on a UT ticket website and buy tickets at face value. So what would be a bad idea about hiring him?

This may be nitpicking, but if its something you "heard", why did you quote it as if it was cut and pasted? Who is telling you this, in general terms?

"With Tony Dungy's players" is pretty stupid, IMO. It's not like Dungy recruited them...

Gruden would have good recognition with recruits, and that would be huge. He would be able to assemble a killer staff. He would get the fanbase excited, and sell tickets.

Above .500 in the playoffs tells me something.

That's my concern. I won't heavily discount his super bowl. But his last years at Tampa do not inspire confidence.

well hot damn and the source is OCI....well he killed my bucs but I supported his ass...i'll support him when he coaches my vols

Good point's here too.

My thing is he won the biggest game in the whole world with someone else players. Would he do that when he first gets here? Also it is very hard to stay over .500 in the NFL just ask Saban, Mike Tomlin, and Jeff Fisher. Also Dungy had multiple times to win a Super Bowl with that team but he couldn't get it done. College is a lot easier to succeed than the NFL. You never heard about a coach that has a lot of success in the NFL and come to the college level and fall on his face.
