we like tymond howard a lot and we lead for him BUT taking him would not affect adams because adams plays the pg/sg role(most likely a point guard).

I agree. The more likely reason for not taking Adams is that even though Chris Jones is going to be very, very good, he is not likely to be a one and done or a two and through. Thus, we have two PGs in Jones and Golden for a few years from 2011 to 2013.

Where we will need to replace is at SF and SG, where Harris, Tatum, Maymon and Hopson will go starting with Hopson after 2010-11, Harris and Tatum after 2011-12 and Maymon after 2012-13 (unless Maymon just blows upand leaves earlier than that).

I'd say our coaches are pretty confident about getting Parker as well. They just need to bridge the 2nd Center spot alongside Hall between Williams leaving and Parker arriving. That may be Michael Chandler (as a one and done or two and through) or the 7'1 Juco Center (as a one and done or two and through).

That's a long-winded way of saying that Howard isn't preferred over Adams because Howard is probably a future SF and Adams a Combo Guard. I tend to think (assuming our coaches have as high an opinion of Adams as does ESPN) that we simply learned our lesson about taking commitments from rising Juniors (call it the "Selby Rule"). Remember the staff was also reluctant to "take" Chris Jones' commitment when he first wanted to go public with it.

If we take Adams now, we get 8-10 schools in his ear saying "Tennessee?" If we wait, those 8-10 schools are having to promote themselves over the other 8-10 instead of focusing just on bashing the Vols.

Tokoto has a nice chance of landing here also.

Tokoto has a zero percent chance of coming here. He will be in blue, either duke unc or kentucky

Duke has spent nearly two years with this kid now and he is drawn to kentucky for nba reasons. Also unc is after him now and he has mutual interest. Sorry but the other guys are as good or better pickups

I agree that the other guys are as good or better. Howard recently dominated Tokoto in a head-to-head match-up.

Jordan Adams is not a point guard. 6-5 as a HS sophomore. Shooting guard at best, but my guess is he ends up at the SF position assuuming he grows another 2-3 inches. This is very possible given he has another two years before he is steps on a college campus.

It is hard to project a lot of these kids who just finished their sophomore years in high school.

I would say Adams could be a SG or SF and Poythress may grow into a power forward similar to Tobias Harris. Poythress is already 6'7.

A kid like Parker who is 6'9 270 right now, could easily be 7'0 290 by the time he enters college. Jaron Stokes is 6'7 and a wide body, which puts him as a likely PF or Center, depending on how much more he grows.

And Howard is probably a bit of undersized SF as of right now, simply because his game is about athleticism more than stroking it, but at 6'5 as a rising Junior, he could easily be 6'7 or 6'8 by the time he enters college, making him a handful as a SF.

True. It's hard to tell what a high school sophomore will look like in two years. I guess my point was that at 6-5, it's hard to believe that Adams will be a PG at the next level unless he aspires to be the next Magic Johnson.

Great post. Tokoto seemed like he was out of the picture a few months ago because Duke and UNC were all over him, but that is no longer the case because both schools have cooled on him and now looking at a kid named Alex Murphy from Rhode Island. Recruiting war is on for South Kingstown’s Alex Murphy | Kevin McNamara | projo.com | The Providence Journal. Coach K is supposedly focusing on him as his #1 or #2 priority. Regardless, Tokoto will not fit Pearl's system whatsoever, he's not quick enough and we are on better prospects for 2012.

From everything I have read it sounds like we have a great shot of getting Adams to hop on the Vol train very soon and it sounds like 2012 is going to be a MONSTER year in recruiting for Tennessee b-ball. Although I think either Hale or Polythress is very interested in UNC, think it's Hale. It's going to be hard to beat UNC for his services.
