Yep....don't need a cat fan telling us how to act. I for one never was calling for Martins head. Never....but didn't like where we were going. Until the ship was somewhat righted. Cats fans were all over Cal....until he did the same. Don't need Cat fans telling us anything.

Yeah I never signed the petition, actually never even saw it. But I did voice my displeasure at times. In a position as public as a HC in the SEC it's going to come with criticism. If a coach can't handle that then he's in the wrong profession or definitely at the wrong place. It's also worth noting that coaches have to separate the irrational fringe from the core. Despite a petition, UT still avg roughly 16k fans per game; that's solid support anyway you slice it.

If the reports are true, that he never said anything to his current team, and that he claimed flat out that "The reports I were staying did come on april 1st" then he is a whole other level of slime. Moreso than kiffin or Cal ever dream of being.

I guarantee you that the he never said that about April 1st, lol

I think everyone needs to really look at Coach Shaka Smart not for the opening but what he is doing at a smaller school with less resources but still having a great time. In this business you are talking about millionaires, would you take a job for 70k if you made 56k but it was a little easier and you had good people that worked with you and for you?

I think CGM is going to stay at Wichita State, he loses Cleanthomy and that is it. He had a top 5 ranked team and they lose one player, was he great of course, but that team played well as a team. He returns Ron Baker, VanVleet and he has made somewhere around 8-10 million dollars in his lifetime. He was linked to South Carolina, Illinios, even Nebraska which is a great fanbase (not so much for basketball) and all of them were turned down as he restructed his contract got incentives and has a great program that is close to winning it all. He has a heck of a resume just in the last 2 years and I think he is content on where he is, plus he probably was a little insulted when we decided to hire Cuonzo in the first place and not him.

I think our coaching search starts with Archie Miller, Jim Crews and possibly Scott Drew although the fertile land of TX basketball is very hard to leave. One person I do hope we accept a decline from first is Mark Few. I think he has taken Gonzaga to a place that might have hit a plateau a little bit (obviously we would love a NCAA 3rd round or even 2nd round plateau every year) and he may look at something of an opportunity to say well maybe I can take my family and our religious faith and my love for fly fishing which is great in Asheville and start a new program and see what I can do. I know we have great resources here and can lure in a bigger fish but sometimes we are outmatched just with the recruiting location we are in.

Let me stop you right there and explain something to you.

This state has produced exactly one NCAA men's champion with all this "fertile land" of recruits so that means squat to me. Houston/Dallas are open range for anyone. See Kentucky's roster for proof.

Secondly,

Scott Drew is truly a terrible person. I cant express this enough.

He's also a lousy in game manager.

In basketball all that matters is how you play in the end. What you did in Dec and Jan is irrelevant come March. Would you have rather had Wichita State's season or Kentucky's?

Neither one won a title, so it doesn't really matter. And if you have Wichita States season and are a #1 seed, you get a much easier path to the final four. We had talent to be a top 20 or so team and snuck into the dance. The year DOES matter, because seeding is highly important. Give me a #8 seed over a play in game every day.

Did you feel that way when he brought Richardson? He was pretty much signed at MSU but then Zo bolts and takes him with him. Washpun too but obviously he's no longer around

LOL...there is a Grand Canyon-esque divide between "pretty much signed" (which isn't even true and such loose terminology that it's not even worth discussing); and being committed to another school.

I thought Martin was a nice guy. His coaching style was not what I expected at this level.

Our team's run in the NCAA was very good, but it had more to do with the players finally getting to work than Martin. The truth is, for his three years, our team was hard to watch many times. Never knew which team would show up; the one with ability and desire, or the one which looked like our players had no clue and the coach looked the same way with no fire.

I wish him well on the left coast. He would have been at Marquette already if they had wanted him. The pulling his name out of the hat a few hours before a new coach was named was all about face-saving, not a desire to stay at UT.

If it is true he did not have the guts or integrity to address his team, then that would indicate I was mistaken about him as a person.

Wish we had Pearl. I supported Martin, even though I was never sold on him, but he was our coach. I only make my comments now because he is gone.

We can, and should, do better.

Go Vols!

Cuonzo was never ever ever ever going to be successful here. He's not been happy here since the end of last season when he expected a raise and extension. Better now than enter into another longer contract and be tied into him for several more years.

I like Cuonzo and wish him the best. He's a quality guy but not a fit here.
Wrong, a quality guy at least meets w/ his players in person.

I saw all I needed to see from Cuonzo when they threw the towel in against Mercer in the NIT a year ago, in Knoxville. That team didn't care to be there and that reflected on the coach.

I saw this team play Iowa, in Dayton at the play in game. And all you can say about that game is thank God JR showed up because we should have lost. Then while lucking out and taking care of business against not so great competition, we have a miraculous chance to beat Michigan to go to the elite 8, but the inbounds play was horrendous.

At least the team played for CCM down the stretch but he and everyone else knows next year is going to be bad. This is best for everyone.

If the stories about boosters planes, etc. are true, what happened to Martin went well beyond "criticism." Can't blame him for leaving, only the manner in which he did.
