Bray's talent > Simms' "experience"

Oh....sorry, yeah...I was referrng to the last version that played for the VOLs.....Cromption Rev-3 had his game on.

I guess now there could be arguments for giving DD 1-1.5 years to upgrade Simms Rev-1 to Rev-3. Not sure I like that idea.

I prefer moving Bray our of alpha testing and start the beta tests asap....enabling DD to have a Bray Rev-1 ready for the start of next season.

I think this team is 6 - 6 IF we don't experiment too much. I'm not sure I wouldn't further beta-test Bray.

I will say this; if it looks like the light has come on for Bray in practice, it might be time.

However, IMHO, Simms improved during this game. I almost think they "overcompensated" again, determined to get him throwing to middle of the field.

I think we are a 6 - 6 team with Simms right now. I don't know with Bray. It's likely we will go 0 for October, and maybe we should release Bray and write the patch code every Sunday until the Ole Miss game.

:dunno:

What I saw was a team that was in a postion to win or tie this game for OT into the 4th quarter. Not anywhere close to that mentally or physiacally last week. I saw a D that gave every effort to make plays till the end. Far cry from last week, and a lot of positive to build on. They learned alot about how to play today. And that is just one week removed from a massive blow out.

Oh how time fogs the memory. If I remember correctly, Stewart could barely take a snap his freshman year. He must have fumbled ten of them. And when UT played Washington State (early season) in 1994 Manning only threw the ball 14 times or so b/c they couldn't trust the passing game and they won 10-9. Fulmer did keep the competition open for the whole season but it was obvious to everyone by the bowl game that Manning should be the starter. A Manning/Stewart tandem circa 1994 would have lost this game too.

You might want to unfog your memory a bit, too. Stewart threw a TD against Va. Tech in the bowl game and played almost all the second half. At the time everybody was saying he reminded them somewhat of Shuler, but thought that Peyton knew the playbook. If he had fumbled 10 snaps he wouldn't have played as much as he did that year. IMO, Fulmer didn't keep the competition open, those two being freshmen kept it open. You did notice they played good enough between them to go to a bowl that year, right? They weren't very good, but didn't make nearly the number of GAME KILLING mistakes our last couple of "QB's" have. We probably had a better team all around, too...so that helped them.

EDIT: I admit my memory is not good....but perhaps there are some here who were over 20 or so when Manning and Stewart were freshmen. Seems like a lot of talk that spring was who would be the QB and it seemed about even from talk. Sounds ridiculous now, but I remember it wasn't settled (for some fans) at the end of the year.

My memory was a little foggy, but not that far off. B. Stewart was QB for two tds and a fg....and Manning QB'd the rest of the points in the 1994 Gator Bowl. (45-23, good guys, I believe)B. Stewart played in the 2nd quarter and 4th. James (Little Man) Stewart was player of the game.

^This

He made some good plays in the 3rd and 4th Qtrs today after he threw those 2 picks. I think he grew leaps and bounds today as a Qb. He really threw with some power and authority. Too bad his accuracy suffered.

I agree. And, he looked better out of the pocket (which we did very little and in the 2nd half). BTW, where did you get the deadhead avatar?

Sure....Microsoft does this with great flare, and they are pretty successful ....could work with Bray.

What happens if Bray doesn't live up to VN expectations? Then what? We haven't seen him play a game yet and frankly can't make that determination.

No they won the battle at the line! Simms was pressured almost every play, couldn't get the run going! Our front 4 could not get the pressure we needed to disrupt brantley! We were simply over powered!

We have become and will always be the Vandy of the SEC. Simms will lead us to 2 or 3 wins this year. And next year we might get 4 if we get Buffalo instead of NC. Bray will transfer after this year and we will be stuck with Simms as the only one with any game exp. Guess being a basketball school is not so bad. Oh wait, the NCAA is going to put the smack down on that too.

At this point, even though we have seen some improvement in Simms, if T. Bray is not working O.T in his playbook, studying film, and giving 120% in practice, do we want him in there. I would hope that he is smart enough to recognize that the opportunity is there for him.

I would say he is, but he's a Freshman still, and that's no excuse. After Summary pick I saw him taking snaps on the sideline. I'd say he's doing everything he can to be ready when its his time.

Simms does not have the talent to be a SEC QB. We are going to bad this year, not because I want them to, but because we do not have depth. After we get out the most difficult part of the schedule, start Bray. If Simms is still the QB next year we'll be right back here having the same discussion.
