Bray's Ole Miss Evaluation

I would argue that he did not look like a freshman QB making his 2nd start @ all. One particular thing I liked was on a 3rd down in the 1st quarter, he fled the pocket, and waved Dmo back to him. Like I said in another thread, its been a while since I've seen a UT qb/wr be that "in sync". Bray is the real deal. Gotta get some big uglies and some LB's and we are there bois. 2012 is not that far off. We will cycle Fulmers "classes" out after '11, and will have 3+(I hope) solid classes and hella experienced upperclassmen.

Duckman, forget the idiots. It's a good thread. I was working so I missed a good portion of the game, but from what I saw, he did throw a few bad passes. He threw a LOT of good passes, making me almost forget the bad ones. Overall, a super performance - outstanding for a freshman. His future looks very bright. I do think that throwing some of the double coverage balls were good throws, though. Reason I say that is, for example, the first td pass. He knew his man was a world class high jumper (has jumped 7'2") and has a large wingspan. Hoisting that throw was a GREAT idea because the odds looked good for him to come down with it.

That was the second TD pass. The first TD pass was flat-out lucky. Their MLB should have picked the ball, but instead he deflected it up into the air and Hunter snatched it and took it 80 yards to the house on our first offensive play of the game.

He gets a warm up game next Saturday vs Vandy and then gets a huge test vs Kentucky. Not saying that because I think they're a great team or anything, but all the pressure will be on us and Bray specifically to win that game and get us bowling.

I think the Kentucky game will be huge for him.

I should add that he seems to struggle with timing/velocity on slants.

I agree but that will hopefully get better in time.

I would hate to try to pick off one of his slant passes.

The ball is getting there in a hurry.

(Ill play) That was actually the 3rd TD pass. The second was to Dmo on the sideline from ab the 19 yd line. Nicely thrown ball. The 3rd was the jumpball to JH and was from maybe the 35 and on 3rd down.

I agree. The first one was a HORRIBLE read and delivery, as the corner wouldve broken that up even if the MLB wasn't there. (He wasn't, as far as Tyler was concerned, LOL) He should have that worked out thru the summer tho.

I agree completely. DMo throw and catch was his best throw of the game.

He's a freshman, and he's going out there and enjoying himself. And his teammates are making plays for him (especially Hunter).

I just hope Chaney doesn't forget we can hand off to a tailback in the next couple of games. I guarantee we are going to need Poole to win one of them. Looked great today, but the learned eye saw how things could have been a lot different if Masoli didn't take all the fight out of Ole Miss.

We threw so much today because of OM's front 4. We didnt allow them to crowd the box like Bama, UF, SC, and LSU. They had to respect the pass so they couldn't do it to us.

52-14 to me suggests that a completely heathy Masoli wouldn't have mattered.

He did make some bad throws, but it felt like he could overcome them within the 3 downs. When we can get a good running game and some protection, watch out. We were lucky some passes weren't picked.

I want to thank Nutt for playing Masoli while he is goofy.

He was a lot more inaccurate today than he was in the Memphis game but overall he was solid once again. Some of his incompletions were well underthrown or well behind but they still weren't bad misses because he only missed in spots where the defenders couldn't make a play on it.

How about this tho, in the three full halfs of college football that Tyler Bray has played (2nd half at USC, 1st half at Memp, 1st half vs. Miss) he has thrown for 700+ yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception.

Pretty remarkable stuff.

Pretty remarkable that he has throw 10 td passes since his last int.

No, you run right at a 315 lb DT and wish for the best.

God forbid you throw it up to your Olympic level athlete on the outside or deep to your track star WR. You pound that football by God.

How many 100 yd games does Poole have? 6 right?

Yes. Maybe Chaney heard about that...

3 freshmen on the O line and Stone with only his 2nd start at center and knowing that Old Miss has 2 huge, strong DT's that are very hard to stop so you know that Bray and our coaches had serious worries about any running game or getting Bray much time at all to make his reads and get rid of the ball to keep the chains moving and score.

I think our young O line did well for being so young and they WILL be better and much stronger next season.

Bray did well for only his 2nd start as a true freshman and knowing how strong and tough the D line he was facing is and that he wouldn't get much time to make his reads.

He missed some easy passes like all QB's do but he never flinched and stood his ground as long as he could to let our recievers try to get open even though he knew he was going to get pounded.

CDD and staff put a great plan together and Bray and the boys executed it better than anyone expected.

The future is very bright with so many young guys getting lots of playing experience.

I see improvement most every game and CDD and staff never seem to miss any opportunity to keep teaching and coaching them up to make the boys even better.

We really have no depth at all so it's amazing that we had so many guys hurt and are still able to compete at all this season against anyone.

The players are learning and the coaching staff is learning so 2 or 3 years from now our Tennessee Vols will be back in the top 10 and I really have no doubts about that.

We DID play toe to toe with LSU and next year I see our Vols getting the W against them and some others in the SEC and starting the climb back up the rankings ladder.

Now lets take care of Vandy and KentUrkey and get to any bowl game for the extra practice and game and get a Bowl game WIN.

GO BIG ORANGE!!!

So Poole going over 100 yards isn't enough?

He got two carries in the second half after the D had given up.

Maybe I'm focused on one series too hard (but I'm a detail oriented guy). After the kick-off reverse, Chaney blew it.

On another day, that costs us big time. Some running plays in there, and he puts points on the board, and he doesn't give Ole Miss a chance to get a score back before halftime.

On a different day, that series costs us big time. Poole, picking up 4 yards on two carries was absolutely the right call down there.

We didn't get the first down, we didn't get points, we went 20 yards backwards. It worked yesterday because the ghost of Jon Crompton got to Masoli.

Seriously. Did you have some accident that completely removed all memory of our offense from 1999-2008?

This kind of post from you is pathetic.

Thinking Poole would pick up four yards twice in that situation is completely idiotic.

Hey, only Auburn's offense put up more points in regulation (7 more) against Ole Miss than UT did yesterday, but we had one really bad series. Captain Details wants to can Jim Chaney for it, but the Auburn, South Carolina, and Wyoming games were all reasons to keep Clawson and Fulmer around.

Throws bad? What quarterback via college or pro's throws it perfect everytime. I think you are being critical on the fact of being critical. Jones missed a pass on outside slant. Hunter missed one on a crossing pattern. It went behind him but if you ever played quarterback, Hunter was to stop in the middle of the zone coverage. He kept on with the crossing pattern. Stocker missed one. Hunter should have held on to the one in south corner near end zone. Its football guys! If you have never played I honestly don't think you should post with criticism. Bray did extremely well. And you know what! Three years from now, as a senior he will make mistakes as well. Are you honestly on message boards to here your self post? I understand its your opinion, but Bray gets an A evaluation on my end.

+1...finally someone understands the zone coverage route and that has played the game. Bray made the rigth read on this. WR is suppose to find the cushion in the zone between the two safeties on the crossing patterns. Plus, your taught DO NOT run into coverage on these routes in zone coverage. Tenn future is bright. Go Vols

On our first couple of rushing attempts Powe (Ole Miss DT) was so far in the backfield he almost took the hand off from Bray.

Surprised there isn't a thread on this particular subject, and if there is.....merge if necessary. I couldn't find one. I'm posting this as a separate thread from the "Bray Train' one because this is about this particular game and this particular performance.

Anyway, what did everyone think today? Personally i thought he had some good passes, but also some pretty terrible ones. I was at the game so i'm not sure what they looked like from a TV standpoint. I'm proud to have him as the starter and have all the confidence in the world that he'll blossom into a real good sec qb. But from the stands today, there was definiteley a mix of good and bad.

Keep in mind that i'm not criticizing just for the sake of criticizing and I am more than happy with the result today. Anytime you win 52-14 when you're 2 1/2 point favorites is a good day. I'm merely stating that he had some good and bad passes. Just wanted started this up to possibly get some other thoughts on his performance.

this kid is mmaking this team respectable. How foolish can one fan be, would you rather have Simms throwing interceptions, fumbling and holding the ball for a sack. Damn that is a sickening post over 600 yards, 8 td's and no ints wtf you want?

Poole had 6 carries in the 4th quarter including a TD. He was taken out of the game after that. I think TN ran the ball 17 times in the 2nd half. Between the Rebels big DTs and walking the LBs up to the line and blitzing early on... I'd say Chaney called a good game.

The drive you're upset over was also hurt by a holding penalty.
