Bray's cast coming off today?

This^

Why rush him back to try and salvage this wash of a season. I would much rather have a bigger, stronger, faster, more accurate TB next year with all his weapons back then a 75-80% TB next week and risk re-injury or worse.

Besides, how the hell is he supposed to throw a ball with a cast/brace on his throwing hand?

Voodoo, man... voodoo. Just ask the WitchDoctor when he pops in on VN next time... he'll tell ya. Bones never lie.... :whistling:

As for quarterback Tyler Bray, everyone is starting to keep a close eye on the timetable for his return. Bray will have the cast removed today, Friday, and will have the thumb examined. They will x-ray it to see how it's healing and to see how he's coming along in gripping the football. No one expects him to return next week, but depending on the x-ray we might have a better feel for how realistic a return for that all-important Vanderbilt game could be. Bray certainly has appeared upbeat and engaged on the practice field and there have been hints that he could be a bit ahead of schedule.
Per VQ this morning.

that's not old school that's just dumb. His thumb that he uses to grip a football is broken and just had surgery. Risking decreased production, not to mention permanent injury, is not worth it

I don't mean to throw him to the wolves and hurt his future but if he can grip the ball and the bone is healing normal then as I said I would want to give it a go. Not blaming him if he doesn't this is just my take.

I heard the doctors told him Monday but he ripped it off on his own this morning. He just couldn't stand watching any more film of Simms and Worley. TIFWIW

Bray, coaches, fan should get no vote. Xray for callus formation is the only important thing. Expect 6 weeks from time of fracture...no matter how Bray feels.

He better be drinkin milk by the gallon! Vitamin D and C, Zinc supplements and a bone stimulator...heck, I would do the bone stimulator at the clinic then recast him everyday. Do not trust him to keep a thumb spica brace on when not supervised...he is money, guard closely, trust no one! Hehe

Hmmm, bone stimulator. I want one

Depends on who you ask.
If you ask lawvol13 the cast was already suppose to be off.
He then changed the story to this weekend.
I'm not sure what the latest version is.

I sent him a note via pigeon carrier and have yet to get a response. Give it time. I should get a reply by Bray.

Anyone who has had a fracture and lived in a cast for a while knows that when it comes off, your arm (thumb, leg whatever) looks and feels like an overcooked strand of spaghetti.

Not using your muscles for 4-6 weeks means that will be a pretty useless thumb when it's finally uncast. That's when the physical therapy starts.

Quick, someone find Bray and challenge him to thumb wrestle! Gotta build up that endurance!

they already did take it off once. the cast he had on last saturday was a shorter cast then the one he had on the week before. they have to take it off to examine the progress.

I currently have my thumb in a cast. It's only been a week, but I've been flexing my thumb against the inside of the cast to keep it from atrophying.

Good idea, assuming that your ortho has OK'd it. But I'll still bet that it won't be 100% when the cast comes off. You'll still need to do some work on it when the time comes. Not trying to be a negathumb or anything; just realistic. Good luck!

Are you the guy that messaged me about Bray committing to UT a while before it broke? Pretty sure it was you. :hi:

Yes and his cast is of Monday. Then they will see how he does. It's up to him at the end of the day. He wants to be back playing.
