Bray's big start

Tyler Bray will start for the KC Chiefs tomorrow night in their last preseason game, against Green Bay. I think this is a big spot, big opportunity for Bray. This is his third year with the Chiefs, and the coaches clearly have liked his potential--it is why they've kept him this long despite some injury issues. He seems to have had a good camp--but he needs to play well tomorrow. At some point every player with potential needs to show out. If Bray is solid, I would think there's a chance he'll take the next step and be the Chiefs backup next year. Nick Foles was signed as the Chiefs backup this year--but he'd be due $7 million next year, and I can't imagine any team wanting to pay that much coin to a backup. If Bray doesn't show he's ready to be a no. 2, the Chiefs might try to keep Foles but ask him to take less money. It depends on what options he has. Foles could probably be the starter for Minny now, if the Chiefs wanted to trade him. I doubt that will happen--the Chiefs signed Foles for a reason--but it might be a distant possibility if Bray plays well tomorrow night.

The QB who's been vying with Bray for a roster spot is former Georgia signal caller Aaron Murray. He's got a size (height) issue and apparently had two fumbles last preseason game. While Bray is expected to make the Chiefs roster, and Murray is expected to be cut, things could change depending on performances tomorrow night. I hope Bray shows his stuff.

Good luck to him! I'll be checking my phone during the UT game, haha.

I've seen them all in person, and Bray had the most impressive arm of any UT quarterback I've ever seen! The throw that sticks out in my mind was against ole Piss (dang spell check) at home. (It's that game that Justin Hunter went off against them a few years ago) Bray dropped back and and Ole Miss player had him around one leg. Bray, on one leg, whirled to his left and spotted his TE against he sideline on the far side of the field. He was covered up, so Bray threw a bullet over his head into the sideline, and nearly threw it into the stands! My son and I just looked at each other in amazement! Dude has a hose!

Bray and Shuler had cannons for UT. I'm glad Tyler is getting a chance to win it. Hope he lights it up.

After he put Murray in UT Orange after last year's game, he became a legend. :)

Bray has an absolutely amazing arm - one of the best even by NFL standards (Vinny Testaverde comes to mind as comparison). If he actually learned how to be disciplined and study the game he could be a huge surprise in NFL.

You should see what he can do with a beer bottle

I still don't understand how anyone can dislike Bray on the field. He played for Dooley. Not his fault. Should just get a pass on wins/losses.

Would have enjoyed seeing him under Cut or under Butch's leadership.

Will say he has no excuses now other than he probably did not develop great habits under Dooley

He had the chance to stay in Butch's first year. At that point in his life, I don't think that would have been a good mix.

I don't think so either. IMO both sides probably wanted a fresh start. Butch had a QB with some minor off field and attitude issues. Bray was probably burnt out from the Dooley years also.

Always felt like Bray needed an Al Wilson type on the team to get his head right at times. Those teams seemed so void of leadership it just wasn't happening. The team seemed to go as he went. And if he got frustrated it was over. Just my opinion. I could be way off. But he sure was talented.

He would have been ineligible for the same reason as Mo Couch. Got caught up in that Western Union scam run by a Bama fan.

Yeah, that's true but he already decided to go before that news broke. That probably played a role in the decision but I think he knew it wouldn't be a good mix at that time.

Honestly, everyone needs an Al Wilson type leader on their team to get everyone's head right.

I wonder if TB has matured into a decent fellow. His last name was an apt descriptor of his character while he was a Vol, his initials an apt descriptor of his representation of the university. Despite his talent and potential, during his tenure with the team, he was a disappointment. Charitably, I wish him well.
