and #2 Baylor is getting their butts kicked in the Big 12 Final. Looks like UConn will have little resistance to a five-peat.....
As long as the women's basketball game lingers at its current level of popularity, and as long as they have a proven Hall of Fame coach, UConn will always be in this position. There's just not enough talent to go around. There's more than there used to be, but UConn is above it. Basically, due to the sport's current level of popularity - further in from the fringe than it once was but not at all a staple like football, men's basketball, etc - and the tendency to play for a great program rather than stay close to home, coupled of course the fact they have a great coach, and Connecticut simply will stay above until Geno retires or leaves. He has cemented that at this point.
For what it's worth, Tennessee would be in the same boat had things not taken such a turn with PS. It's not at all a slight on Holly, either, just an observation. Pat would have had the Lady Vols back in the Final Four again, and perhaps would have gotten some recruits to come here that we missed on - she would definitely have kept them at the top of the pecking order, had she retained her health. All the more reason that UConn's continued success haunts the Lady Vol faithful. We were the program that best rivaled them, but our legs were taken out from under us and we've never recovered (not so far anyway). Just a shame. We had the best games with that bunch.
