Fulkerson -18
James -12
Bowden -6
Vescovi -5
Pons -7
Gaines +6
Nkamhoua +11
Johnson -2
Plavsic 0
Pember -2

As important as Fulkerson has been this year, this team played much better today while he was on the bench. We were playing well with the small lineup and melted down when Fulk returned. Sometime during the Au 18 point run, a timeout obviously SHOULD have been called and gone back to the small ball they were playing to build that lead.

Plus the inordinate number of TOs.
James 6
Vescovi 5
Fulkerson 4
Pons 3

Total TOs 24

The 24 turnovers was the most of any game since Barnes became the UT coach. Although Fulkerson has the "game" player for us, he certainly was not missed during the first half. In fact there have been a total of three games of turnovers that equaled those of this game.

Gaines made a believer out of me today. Kid was nonstop battling for the basketball. Hopefully his offensive skill set continues to develop and his energy becomes contagious to the rest of the team.
Put on at least 30 lbs. and he might play next season

I said very early on that there was a really good chance that outside of James, he may have the highest ceiling of any of the freshmen (not counting Vescovi). I haven't seen anything to change my mind on that except that perhaps the gap is closing a bit between he and James, if for no other reason that attitude and approach. Gaines leaves nothing out out on the floor, which makes his mistakes more forgivable because they generally come out of hustle or over pursuit. He will learn from those.

There was one rebound he grabbed yesterday vs AU that was a MAN rebound, and he got it in the paint where he was probably outweighed by 30-40 lbs compared to anyone else who had a shot to grab it around him. Kid just plays with an intensity and level of effort that you can't teach.

Watch Gaines when one of his teammates is shooting free throws - uncanny how he’s able to slip threw for rebounding position
