#BoycottNRA

One that large could push $400,000. That one has all the bells and whistles too. Our boats start at about $200k for a very basic model. Transportation is expensive too. What might be fun is to launch it in Nashville and drive the boat home. It won't save you any money but it would be fun. I've had some people drop in Nashville and take their boats home all the way to Wisconsin, Iowa, and almost to Chicago.

Taking it from Nashville to Kuttawa would be a day trip and would be fun!

I had no supervision. Went 22 squirrel hunting at 11 with country kids my age. Went down to the hardware store and bought my own squirrel gun at 14. Most 'training' I ever had was being told to keep it unloaded and pointed into the ground when walking along. Keep it pointed into the air with the safety on when hunting squirrel. Only take the safety off once I had it pointed towards where they were. And by god never, ever, for any reason point it at anybody and if dad heard I'd done that it'd get broke over a fencepost and as long as I lived under his roof I'd never hunt again.

I get what you're saying. I was about the same way but this part of your post tells me you had supervision.

Lots of kids these days don't have that.

When I went to Korea (can't remember the airline) it was free booze once you were in international airspace. You do the math, bunch of soldiers on a plane with free booze and no supervision. Worst hangover I have ever had to this day.

And once they run out of barf bags, the foulest smelling. I will NEVER forget my Nam Freedom Bird flight from Hawaii to Travis. :(((

It's called education. It's required. Goes hand in hand with "rules". Serves the greater purpose of an organized and functioning society.

Do you ignore red lights when driving too, or do you succumb to the rules imposed by "the man"?

If you and your liberal ilk truly believed the first two sentences nearly half the kids 30 and under today would never have graduated HS.

But he never once took me hunting, or showed me how to shoot or clean a gun, even though he did hunt with his alcoholic drinking buddies. Most he ever did was let me shoot one round through his silver plated pearl hsndled .45,... at a Tide box. That and warn me about where to keep the muzzle pointed.

He was a drunk when I was young. He did finally, completely quit; but only after I was 23 or 24. At least I never smelled it on him again. But he was a traveling salesman and gone 2 weeks at a stretch sometimes.

So, no, 'supervision' .. not really.

But he obviously impressed you with the dangers of a gun and stressed the importance of muzzle direction. Also, I think times are different now. I think kids on the whole are genuinely smarter, book smart, but many don't have commkkn sense or basic mechanical skills. Most don't know which end of a lug wrench to use to change a tire.

I have an 18 yo and he's a real good kid. Can do about anything and is a straight A student, but the thought of some of his friends being able to go out and buy any firearm scares me. They don't possess the mental maturity to handle a firearm unsupervised IMO.

This is something I have proposed before. Hunter education which included actual range time was a requirement during middle school. I think it should be mandatory today.

I really learned how to handle and clean a rifle from my buddies. Their mom made great squirrel stew so their shed is where we took our squirrels to skin (and nail the tails on the side :)...I'd say their dad had more influence, through them, on my hunting and rifle skills than my own. Easily.

I was just scared my dad would brake my 22 for some percieved infraction.

Freedom eh? So, conversely, we don't have freedom because of a drivers education course, behind the wheel training, behind the wheel test, written examination and eye exam when getting a drivers license?

So what are the regulations for driving on private property? Not on public roads?

More virtue signaling. LL Bean only sells guns at its flagship location, which I’m guessing the number of buyers under the age of 21 is already nil

It's been a long time since I was there but I seem to remember the guns section was quite small, and was mostly things like over unders and deer rifles. Nothing remotely tactical. At any rate it was dwarfed by the fly fishing section.

LL Bean and REI sell guns? I didn’t know that honestly.

On another note I did see where the Sandy Hook parents reached out to Bass Pro who also owns Cabelas and asked them to stop selling assault weapons. I saw no mention of a reply from Bass Pro.

REI doesn’t. But they’re talking about forcing the parent company of CamelBak water bottles to end their relationship with the NRA if they want them to continue selling their products. If I was that company, I’d tell them to pound sand. They probably sell enough online though Amazon that losing out to REI isn’t a significant loss.

Yea, brick and mortar stores should be careful. REI is ok but way over priced.

REI’s decision is pretty stupid. I just emailed them and shared my thoughts. I’ve gotten a few good deals on boots there before, but they’re mostly overpriced. They’ll never get another dollar from me.

They're just another company with weak minded leadership that's trying to get in on some free publicity. I'd rather not pay $200 for something you can get elsewhere for $100 just so you call tell your friends you got it at REI. Kinda like Starbucks, if I want to pay $4 for coffee I'll go to the gas station and get 3 cups.
