I had a scare in the thread. I thought for a moment I was talking about a different quote from Carr made on a different day. It's probably good for the board that we disagree on this. It would be super awkward for them if there were two of us who were right all the time
That's what Sinclair is demandingWait, Kimmel has to make a donation to TPUSA to get his show back? He didn't even make fun of CK. This is crazy. They just wanna end the show. He should sue Disney and go podcast or retire or whatever
The joke was about Trump, not CK.
Remember when we were told they would legalize comedy?
What “lie” did Kimmel make. Give me a direct quote please.Fire the guy for good! FCC demands operators act in the public interest. Lying about a political assassination is NOT in the public interest. You are free to say most anything you want in this country. You will not be jailed for speech in the US as you would in the UK. You are responsible for what you say, and being fired for lying is not a new thing.
I don't like that at all, as I've posted. The flip side of that is that...Meanwhile...
Trump spoke about the issue to reporters on Thursday aboard Air Force One while returning from a state visit to the UK.
"I have read someplace that the networks were 97% against me, again, 97% negative, and yet I won and easily, all seven swing states [in last year's election]," the president said.
"They give me only bad publicity, press. I mean, they're getting a licence. I would think maybe their licence should be taken away."
The bully on the playground usually runs to the teacher and cries through their nosebleed when they get punched back. The “I thought the right didn’t believe in cancel culture!” is one of the most pathetically disingenuous arguments made on this board.
Both sides agree for the most part that there’s an Overton window of what is/is not acceptable. Both sides typically want employers to hold people in specific positions (teachers, journalists, etc) responsible if they do say something horrific. Like the people openly cheering the death of Charlie Kirk in their classroom.
What the right pushes back against is the use of standard right wing positions as a reason to cancel someone (Gina C at Disney for example) or the use of old tweets from several years ago (Florida QB who was rapping as a middle schooler and said the n word for example, or Kevin Hart)
None of Trump’s leg humpers will touch that statement. Why? Because it is a blatant push for state run media that allows zero dissent. This is what you get from someone who admires dictators. And his supporters know it. They are just willing to turn a blind eye to it. Kind of amazing for folks who thrive on freedom from government intervention and overreach.Meanwhile...

No question that Kimmel stepped over the line and made his statement prematurely. But you are woefully naive if you don’t think the Nexstar merger and the FCC approval didn’t have a lot to do with the decision to pull him. It was simply to curry favor with Carr and Trump for the approval. (Carr is nothing but a puppet.)Their best case for an exception is that the ownership rule was established pre-internet and before cable TV became viable.
Don’t ignore the fact that Trump is pro-business. Appeasing those in power is nothing new. He’s not going to be an ass-hole like when Biden’s people blocked Spirit Airlines from merging to protect the consumers. That stance drove Spirit into bankruptcy. That was ultimately great for the consumer, right? Trump’s going to be supportive because a merger sustains the economic viability of broadcasting groups. Nexstar and Tegna might not exist individually a decade from now. Stop with the nonsense that they’re firing Kimmel in exchange for a favor from Trump. He’s being blown out because a significant number of Nexstar and Sinclair viewers have had enough of his **** show.
What “joke”? He wasn’t joking. He falsely claimed that Kirk’s assassin was a MAGA conservative.Wait, Kimmel has to make a donation to TPUSA to get his show back? He didn't even make fun of CK. This is crazy. They just wanna end the show. He should sue Disney and go podcast or retire or whatever

Granted I don’t think the government should be getting involved; but don’t pretend that Kimmel is some kind of pure comedian like Carson or Leno was.
ABC should have just asked him to correct his false statement. Oh wait, they DID ask him to but the refused.
The question I want answered is why ABC gave a blackface performer a job in the first place? That is strictly verboten to the left (and all decent Americans).
