That would most likely have us as 5th in the SEC, or 6th, if two teams went to the BCS.

Not necessarily. We were 6th in the BCS standings at the end of the 2003 season. After the BCS games, the bowl determines who it invites and has nothing to do with the finish in the conference.

I left out that we went to the Chick fil a bowl after being 6th in the BCS

He lost all credibility when he has Cal in the sun bowl "because they went to the holiday bowl last year." How is that even relavant?

yeah, he said since they came in second in pac-10 that's where they'd go... let's say they lose two games (UT, USC?) they wouldn't be sun bowl bound

the second placed team goes to the holiday bowl. If we only lose two games, and SC is in the NC game, i'd say we'd be in the rose bowl.

What do you all think Coach Phil has to do to get the pressure off him and his staff this season??

Florida would sell out too, plus there would be more people traveling, filling up hotels etc. generating more revenue.

Nationally a Fla. vs Michigan match up is much more appealing than Cal vs. Michigan.

Other than keeping Pac 10 vs Big Ten, why would you not take the defending champs over Cal?

Cal hasn't been to the rose bowl in 50 years. It will be the hottest ticket in a decade. The chairman of the rose committe is a client of mine (he's a cal alumn too), he tells me only ND would be a more desirable team. They care very much about preserving the big-10/pac-10 matchup btw. Very much. Also keep in mind that this would be the 3rd time in 4 years michigan was in the rose bowl. I doubt very much their alumni will travel well (particurally since i'm sure they will be disapointed they aren't in the NC game). Florida might sell 50K tickets, but 80-90K? Doubtful. There are enough cal alumni just in southern california to sell 50K tickets.

First, it makes me ill that they would want ND over anybody decent just because of the name. I realize that people still pay attention to them, but I mean come on already. They simply have not been that good and their bowl record over the last decade proves the point.

Having Florida versus Michigan would attract a huge television rating in and of itself. Plus, you'd have the whole factor of Florida getting into the BCS title game last year over Michigan. Between the two schools, I've got to think it would be an instant sell-out.

I respect what you are saying about Cal getting into that game and preserving the old Big Ten -- Pac 10 tie-in. But bottom line is that Michigan and Florida are two of the hot names right now in college football and it would be viewed as two heavyweights squaring off in the tradition-rich Rose Bowl. Can't beat it.

Well the rose bowl almost always sells out, but not always at the full ticket price (which is what the rose committe wants). I still think michigan fans stay away. Hey I hope both our teams are good enough for it to be an issue. And it would be a great game, but Cal still definetly gets the nod.

edit: as for ND you can't beat their TV ratings or huge fanbase (huge fanbase in so cal too). i find it sick too.

edit again: in 2004 we had 50K preorders for rosebowl tickets and our fans bought 10K from michigan who weren't selling out their allotment (even though we weren't sure we were going). the rose committe knows this.

I realize that. Typically, it's the 5th place team. There are exceptions.
