In an article by Dave Hooker in yesterday's KNS. He said that the Outback, Peach, Citrus, and Cotton Bowls had to pick the SECCG loser once every 4 years. The Outback bowl is the only one that has not chosen a SECCG loser in the previous 3 seasons. So do we go to the Outback bowl if we lose in the SECCG? Thanks for any input.

I had not heard that before. Interesting, but I'm not sure that any bowls have a mandatory rotation like that (other than the BCS, of course).

Here is the link:

Vols large part of SEC bowl talk : SEC News : GoVolsXtra.com

Here is the quote from the article:

"That could change if the Outback or Cotton decide to exercise their mandatory selection of an SEC championship game loser.

Those two bowls, along with the Capital One and Chick-fil-A, must take the SEC championship game loser at least once in a four-year cycle. Capital One did so last year when it selected Arkansas."

The Outback is the only bowl that hasn't had the SECCG loser in the last 3 years.

So if we lose in the SECCG do we go to Tampa?

Well in that case can we play penn state again. It would be like a redo. Except this time penn state is even worse than last year. That being said they would probably still find away to beat us.

Worse than last year? Impling that they were bad last year? I guess we got smoked by a bad team then. With UT's recent bowl history I would not look past any team.

The article posted has little credibility IMO. If we beat Vandy and Kentucky and lose SEC champ. we fall no farther than Outback. I do not believe anything else is possible under the current system. We are not likely to go to Capital One, all the experts think they will take FL, assuming GA wins out and goes to BCS. So, lets hope FL ST. throws a monkey wrench in those plans.

Yeah .. if FL and GA were to both lose 1 then things could get very interesting.

I hope the football team is not looking ahead at possible bowl games instead of focusing on Vanderbilt and Kentucky. I wouldn't even think about pondering the bowl game question until after the Kentucky game!

It all comes down to a few scenarios.

If UGA goes to the BCS as an atlarge, then Tennessee should be either Capitol One (They have passed on TN several times for Florida recently, it would be nice to see them invite us instead), or Outback.

If for some strange reason (a loss to uk or ga tech) UGA doesn't go to a BCS game and the Vols lose the SEC CG, then I could see the Vols in either the Outback or the ChikFilA Bowl.

If the Vols lose to VANDY OR UK then best case would be Chik-Fil-A, which would probably take Alabama over us, and then Music City or Independance. I would think Music City would jump all over the Vols as long as they didnt lose both those games.

If Tennessee wins the SEC CG, then ofcourse we play in the Sugar.

Hooker is an idiot and that article was more of a way to bring up past bowl disapointments than it was to serve as informative to the Vol Nation. He talks in circles about three different times there.

I doubt sincerely that they are giving it any thought. I am sure they are focused on the next two games.

I do wonder if they might be overlooking Vandy a bit, though. It is a bit of a trap game, sandwiched in between Arky and Kentucky. If you come out flat and a step slow on Saturday, it could be indicative of looking ahead.

I agree with your post except if We go to and lose SEC Champ, Fl has to lose to Fl st for us to go to Peach as well, they will be BCS Eligible by end of year if they win out and will get selected. Thus, peach bowl after losing sec champ game is only the slightest of possibilities and is not a real consideration.

If we lose the SEC CG and Georgia makes BCS, it goes like this I think...

Capitol One Florida
Cotton Auburn-Alabama Winner
Outback either Tennessee or AU/UAloser unless SC upsets Clemson, then they are in.
Chik-Fil-A Tennessee
Music City- Kentucky or SC
Independance- Miss St.
Liberty Bowl Arkansas
Kentucky takes a Big10 slot in the Texas Bowl

We lose SEC CG and Georgia loses to Ga Tech or UK and it gets messy.

Not really possible, the loser of Al/Aub will have 5 loses and one less win then us. It would be a major thing if they skipped like an end to some contracts. It is just sensational talk and not a possibility even contractually with these bowls. The only way it can happen is if GA and FL lose one game then we would be peaching it. And that is a slim chance.

The SEC bowls pass over teams to select somebody else with a worse record all the time.

I doubt the Outback Bowl would take 7-5 South Carolina over 9-4 UT in that scenario.

6th ranked Tennessee fell to the SEC's 5th Bowl in 2003. I could certainly see the Outback passing on Tennessee being there two years in a row for a fan base that travels well and would be coming off a win over a rival as oppossed to Tenn again, coming off a loss.

Show me a time maybe the clemson game win we had two more wins and one less loss then one team in the cotton and outback---this is what we are talking about--I know that tie-breakers are meaningless but it would not even be close---but if it has happened before please let me know.

In 2003 we did not have the better SEC record I checked, we were tied for 3rd with two other teams--much different--we would not be tied we would have the edge no matter what we will have the 4th best SEC record in the SEC champ game scenario
