Bowl Projections

Jerry Palm from cbssports has us in the music city against Louisville. That’s a crappy matchup. He has LSU in the playoff and Georgia is the only sec team in the big bowls. He had Bama in citrus, gators in outback and auburn to the gator. Don’t know about all of that though. Kinda hard to believe that Bama or Florida doesn’t end up in the Orange.

So YOU are the type of guy who wants to punch below his weight rather than take on a worthy opponent. With our first bowl game in years.
If you allow yourself to learn rather than be a snob, here you go golf boy:
No risk, no reward.
2 yrs. not like 20.

This year, with the way the season started, I would rather go into next year riding high on a winning streak, than play a team like Michigan or Penn St. They aren't world beaters, but they could beat up on UT. I personally don't want that for this team.

no risk, no reward.........? I also know I can't carry a golf ball 350, so I don't try to.

I understand the rationale for wanting to play a team that we feel confident in beating but I think wanting to avoid a challenge is such a bad mentality to have. I would like to watch how we play against a Michigan or a Penn State to see just how much we have actually improved since the beginning of the season.

It's not that at all. We'd be underdogs to both Iowa State and Minnesota and no better than a 1 point favorite over Indiana. Those are not "easy victories" like so many on here seem to think.

But I don't think it makes a lot of sense to match up a top 10 team versus a team that's probably 30 - 35ish. Both Michigan and Penn State are top 10 teams IMO. Yeah, it'd be great if we played them and it was an upset, but on a fundamental level, I think those types of matchups don't make for the best bowl games.

My preference would actually be Minnesota. We'd be underdogs, but I think it'd be a very competitive game, and a big opportunity for a potential upset. Be intriguing on multiple levels since it would force Minnesota to play outside the weak Big 10 West, and also matchup between 2 "up and coming" coaches with Pruitt and PJ Fleck. Fleck has an innovative offense and Pruitt is a defensive mastermind.

I want Michigan, I don't want to back down. We are going up folks. We get them, put in 100% in preparation and scheme. Our coaching is WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!
Take down Michigan, and ride the off season high and mighty, land some bad ass cruits!
Agree totally, do not get this Vanderbilt mentality by our fans. A loss to a Michigan or Penn State will not set the program back like a potential upset by an Indiana or other lesser team. If you do not have faith in this coaching staff then we need to change it.

Dude. I don't care about golf. What you can't do doesn't mean squat as far as me, or this team. You recite weak minded crap, so I don't care what you think. No risk no reward, repeat it maybe you will understand. You want glory, elation, and advancement? No you want to beat up on some inferior team. I don't know where you are from, but this is TN.

I fully agree with you; I can't see any scenario in which Alabama misses out on a NY6 bowl. I could see Auburn's win kicking Florida out of the Cotton Bowl, but that would just place them in the Citrus Bowl in my mind.

Only way that is true is if they fall below a NY6 bowl by being out of the top 12. Not gonna happen. May push us into contention for a bowl we don't belong in, Citrus. If AL, AU & FL make it to NY6 then the Citrus has to choose between us and A&M. Citrus actually gets to choose as opposed to group of 6. Who knows. All depends on how many SEC wind up in the big bowls.

CBS has Bama in the Citrus Bowl. I hope it's wrong.

I believe bowl match ups are announced the day after conference championship games.

LOL, I find it pathetic that so many people are like "I DON'T WANT TO PLAY INDIANA!"

Seriously, we're a 7-5 team and so many here are throwing a hissy fit over the fact that we might not get matched up with a top 10 team. I'm happy to play a bowl. I don't care who we play. If it's Indiana, I'm excited. If it's Michigan, I'm excited. If it's Minnesota, I'm excited. If it's Louisville, I'm excited.

Realistically, though, it's crazy to say "if we don't get Michigan, I don't care." Michigan is a top 10 team. We're a 30 - 35ish team. We're probably not getting Michigan. We're much more likely to face at team like Indiana, Iowa State, or Louisville.

You're the guy who shoots 79 at the local muni and is ready to play Bethpage Black from the back tees.

Well, then you are the guy that wants to play a high school team and brag to his friends about winning 100-0!!!

Palm is usually good. But, he’s way off on this one.

I’ll stay at the house if it’s Indiana. I have zero interest in that match up.
As much as I want to see UT in a bowl game playing Indiana just doesn't move the meter. Although, I did go to the Peach Bowl after the '87 season where UT played Indiana.
