We’re at the “Pool of 6 level” - meaning we’re equally likely to end up in one of 6 bowl games:
-Gator Bowl (vs ACC or Big Ten -…most likely Big Ten since the ACC has already hit its “3 invites in each 6 year period”quota)
-Reliaquest (formerly Outback) Bowl (vs Big Ten)
-Texas Bowl (vs Big 12)
-Music City Bowl (vs Big Ten)
-Liberty Bowl (vs Big 12)
-(and this year) the Mayo Bowl (vs ACC)
Essentially the way it works at the “Pool of 6” level is as follows:
- The schools submit a list of their order of preference of these bowl games.
-The bowls submit an ordered list of their preferences of all the SEC schools eligible for these games.
-The SEC front offices take this information from the schools and bowls; they combine it with other factors including: the bowl game’s proximity to the school location/fanbase, how recently the school has played in that bowl game, and preventing rematches of regular season games, recent years’ bowl game, or next season regular season games. Using all that, SEC offices then place the 6 teams for the bowls.
LONG STORY SHORTER, at this point Tennessee’s pretty much equally likely to end up in the Gator, Reliaquest, Music City, Texas, Liberty, or Mayo Bowl (…though Texas Bowl might be the least likely; and if the Mayo Bowl ends up being Clemson or NC State, the SEC wouldn’t put Tennessee there).
