Bowl possibilities (Merged)

College Football at MSNBC says Tennesse will go to the Liberty Bowl to face Houston.

In an odd way, the Outback bowl may not be best for UT, especially if they face Penn St, who is well below us in the rankings. Va Tech (Peach Bowl), or OU (Cotton Bowl) are ahead of us.

Unless we are in a BCS bowl, I always like to face a team who is ahead of us. That way, a win means a much higher ranking, rather than facing a team who is below us...

they still have to play USC at home and that is not easy

It doesn't matter. Win or lose, they are BCS bound.

I don't particularly care whether the team is above or below us, I'd just like to see us go to the best bowl possible. I don't remember where Michigan, or A&M, or anyone else we have faced in a bowl, was ranked. I just remember the '01 team that won the Citrus, or the '04 team that won the Cotton.

I also don't see us falling below the Chicken Bowl if we win Saturday. Even if the SEC only puts 1 team in the BCS, the Chicken would have the 5th choice of SEC schools. I just don't see us falling below that.

Whatever it is, CPF better win it unless he wants to clock his 4th unranked season in the 2000s.

Unless Florida gets a lot better in the next two weeks on offense, it could be ugly for the Gators. They could not stop South Carolina's running game given Thomas being gone and some injuries. Need to get our act together against FSU.

I went ahead and bought 2 tickets to the Outback Bowl here in Tampa just in case...should they play elsewhere, I'll have no trouble selling them as the game is always a quick sellout.

but they are notre dame, and those two losses will be to mich and usc who would be #2 and #3. i'm not saying its fair, but the pro nd bias will get them into a bcs bowl.

Just like last year, the Irish did not defeat any really good teams. Seriously, who is the best team they've beaten? Georgia Tech or Penn State? I think last year they didn't even beat a single team with a winning record. I guess this year is an improvement in that regard.

I am almost positive that we wont go to the Chik fil a bowl. I dont think they want us, and Im not sure the university wants them. The cotton bowl will either choose LSU or ARK. We have a chance at the Outback bowl. Depending on what happens with the SECCG. UK will prob get the Music city just because I think they might travel well. Im guessing we will be going to the Liberty bowl.

Notre Dame is a team that nerves me a little, not because they are Notre Dame and they play the supposed hardest schedule in the country. It is the arrogance that they play the hardest schedule in the country. If you call Army, Navy, Air Force a hard schedule I am confused. I mean if the Marines played I am sure ND would schedule them. And Charlie Wies complaining about the BCS standings. Look you got throttled at home and barley got by MSU your not that special.

actually that was 96.. peyton's vols then went to the Orange in 98 (97 season). we also whipped michigan in the '02 citrus, possibly my favorite bowl game ever, not counting the 99 fiesta of course
I was at the 98 Orange Bowl against Nebraska. I'll never forget the first drive of the second half. Nebraska ran the ball every play all the way for the TD. I still believe that the butt whoopin they put on us in the second half was our motivation for the NC season. On the bright side, the Nebraska coeds were most conciliatory after the game :)

I was there, too. Remember the horrible National Anthem by K-C and Jo-Jo? The highlights of the night for me:

1. Chris Hogue's monster punt

2. Watching the huge Nebraska weeble-wobble thingy

At first, I thought Volfanbill said, "I was at the '98 game......", then I responded, "I was there, too"......then I THOUGHT that Volfanbill said, "I was there as well"...AGAIN.

I was thinking, "I know you were bill, you just said you were.......then I realized that volfanbill and volmanbill were 2 different posters.

What does everyone think? Does everyone honestly think the Peach would take us again? I want to go to the Outback Bowl, but after the way they have done us in previous years, we may get put to the Liberty or Music City.

I honestly have no idea. We could end up in the Outback, Cotton, Peach, or Music City. There are so many different scenarios that could play out I wouldn't be surprised no matter where we go.

I don't think we have any shot in hell of getting in the Outback Bowl or the Cotton Bowl. I would think that the Peach Bowl or Music City Bowl are possibilities.

UT has been getting the shaft of late with bowl bids. I would expect the Chick/peach bowl if UT is lucky otherwise its the Music City Bowl.
