Notre Dame, Iowa State and Kansas State have reportedly opted out of their bowl games. Some of the 5-7 replacement trans have also reportedly opted out.

There's some economic leverage going on there.

So, it's really 3 teams that opted out, one being mega butthurt, and 2 losing their coaches. The rest are a bunch of 5-7 teams that weren't eligible anyway and only got asked because the other 3 are sitting out.

This is bunch of nothing, and even funnier that some are trying to lump in 5-7 teams that everyone use to be upset about GETTING a bowl bid.

There are too many bowl games anyway. The domers need to stfu. Tulane has no business in the playoff, JMU either really, but they at least won their conference. Shut up domers. You are an ACC member in everything except football and hockey. Had you been in the ACC in football, maybe you have a shot. You want the whole pie instead of your slice. You have gotten preferential treatment for decades. Join a conference, win it, and then if you get snubbed call fsu and y'all go have a beer and cry about it.

Yeaahhhhh

Everyone always complains that there are too many bowls.

Until they come home work tired like next Weds, pop on the TV and there is a random bowl game starting between two teams you don't care about and have barely heard of.

Yet, you will sit there and watch the game. Most likely have a beverage or two and the world will seem OK again for a brief period

Trust me man, my holidays are stressful enough. Some of those random bowl games have probably kept me sane more than a few times in the last few decades

Tulane also won their conference, unlcess you meant at least Tulane and JMU won their conferences.

What I find funny is Notre Dame is now pissed at the ACC for campaigning for Miami over Notre Dame.....you're mad at the ACC for campaigning for a full member over a partial member? What did you expect them to do, they get nothing if ND goes and they get money if Miami goes.

STFU and be a full member if you want the ACC lobbying for you.

I kinda understand the 5-7 teams. Some of the lower tier bowls don't pay enough to cover the teams cost of playing in them. I just don't understand why you would give up those extra practices for the development of your team.

6-6 teams shouldn't go bowling. I'd argue anyone under 8 wins shouldn't. Change that and the value of the bowl increases.

Exactly on both.
And Miami beat nd so again, domers stfu.

Welp, I thought this was the thread to monitor our players who decide to ditch the bowl game. Guess I'll have to wait for the "official" bowl op out thread?

I'm honestly confused as to why so many Big 12 teams are opting out. They are all being fined $500k for doing so. I could understand a large program that can stomach the financial opportunity loss, but for these Big 12 programs that already trail the other conferences, one would think it would be even moreso important that they capitalize on playing these bowl games.

I think even Notre Dame agrees with the equation. The problem exists because the same committee had ND ranked above Miami before they went into the room and locked the door. They got it right but that move should have taken place 2 ballots before, why now? It was clearly a backroom move. At least they got it right for a change.

I'm old enough to remember when 7-4 didn't guarantee you a bowl spot because there were only about 18.
That was the prime of the bowl games. With the playoffs making that a threshold again would be smart. Make value you in the bowls and make them mean something again. Remove some conference connections and focus on the best match ups.

It’s nice to have some college football playing during Christmas parties and get togethers also, at least playing in the background. Personally I miss the blue gray all star game that used to be on Christmas Day as well. Growing up we always had it on Christmas morning at my Granny’s house after breakfast and presents. It was always fun seeing all the sec players from teams that couldn’t go to a bowl because they were on probation, and Vandy’s punter.

Yeah, I kinda miss that game also.

I remember a cew years when there was the random UT player. That always seemed like a big deal for some reason lol

Oddly enough-one of my yearly traditions for like a decade was watching that bowl game from Hawaii on Christmas Eve that was on until like 4 AM Christmas morning ha ha

Living on the West Coast, I was always wide awake well into the night coming back east for the holiday.

I have fond memories from those games actually. Like I was the first person awake on Christmas morning (because I had not yet been to sleep)

I’ve been on the West coast about three years now and it’s crazy how three hours affect the games themselves. Have you gotten used to it yet?

I don't think that'd be in the Around the NCAA forum, but sure

They have no business?
What's great about this format is any of these teams can get hot at any time and win 5 games playing good football. I don't think either team can win but for 4 quarters of the game they have a chance.
