Everyone and their mother knew it was going to be the highest ranked SEC team left playing in the Citrus Bowl, and Texas was already ranked higher than Vanderbilt at the end of regular season play.Vandy is probably wondering why they don't get to play Michigan![]()
We played Indiana in the Gator Bowl. Now it was 2020 and the last time we were in the bowl you referenced was after 16? So I hope we're in TampaThis is why I think we get the Gator Bowl. We have recently played in the Reliaquest. I would assume we would prefer the Gator Bowl to the Music City, Mayo, etc. I would also assume the Gator Bowl would prefer to have us with the amount of traveling we do compared to Vandy and Mizzou.
Texas is way more advantageous than Vanderbilt in a bowl game. It's really not even closeEveryone and their mother knew it was going to be the highest ranked SEC team left playing in the Citrus Bowl, and Texas was already ranked higher than Vanderbilt at the end of regular season play.
They already knew they weren’t getting that into that one.
To clarify, I never said Vanderbilt was more advantageous in a bowl game.Texas is way more advantageous than Vanderbilt in a bowl game. It's really not even close
You do realize that Vandy folks think they are better than Texas? To clarify, I never said Vanderbilt was more advantageous in a bowl game.
Citrus bowl is entirely in its contract about taking the highest ranked SEC team remaining after the playoff selections. The two ranked teams left were Texas and Vanderbilt, and Texas was ranked ahead of Vanderbilt when both finished all their games for the regular season. It was 100% always going to be Texas at this point, unless Alabama fell out of the CFP.
(The only way Vanderbilt was ever really looking at the bowl was if A&M had beaten Texas and pushed them down to an unranked or lower ranked 8-4, but they did not.)
I wouldn’t say meaningless, but it’s definitely playoffs or bust now. The extra time, practices, and development is what you hope to gain.I don't understand why anyone cares. Everyone says these bowls are meaningless.
