As has been mentioned, our season as far as wins and losses has turned out about as expected. Injuries have taken place at the spots where we did not need them to take place. With all the bad that has gone down for the Vols this year I think it is fairly safe to look at MTSU and UK as wins and also look at Arky as a loss.

That all leads to the one toss up we have left that stands between us and a bowl game - Vanderbilt. A bowl game means another month of practices for our young guys and one more game to show recruits and fans we are headed in the right direction. We need a bowl game so bad this year not just for the practices but for a chance to get a win and head into the offseason with some type of positive momentum.

I know Vandy is Vandy and they are known for finding ways to beat themselves. Vandy is Vandy and can hang with teams for a while before lack of depth sets in. Vandy is Vandy because they can sneak up on teams for a while because they were taken lightly by their opponent. Here's the irony...that is our identity right now as a team!

I know the crowd will not be spectacular this weekend. I know that the Vandy game falls on the weekend before Thanksgiving so students might be gone already for the holiday. I know it is weeks away but I am asking right now that you begin to prepare for what will be a battle. I am not in the camp that sits back and says "We are UT and we always beat Vandy." This is different.

We are a hurting team looking for something to turn us around. They are a team that has a coach that is making them believe they are something that they are not but belief is a crazy thing. They believe we are on our way down and they are on their way up. They know they can play close with good teams, we think we can. They look at us as THE GAME of their season and a chance to take over the state. We see them as little brother.

Do I think we win? Yes. Do I think it will be a battle? Yes. Will this game help propel us to a bowl bid and a month of opportunity for our young guys? Yes.

Will we do our part as fans and show up and be loud for a game that usually means nothing to us? Will we stop living in the past and understand the situation around this game is different this year? That is up to you.

I am truly worried we could lose this game.

I'm hardly a doomsday-er, but I wouldn't chalk any W's in the win column just yet. It's not that I think this team will lose to MTSU, Vandy, or UK, but I've yet to see any on-field proof that we can score TD's.

Wished I could be half as optimistic as you. Not sure we need to be in a bowl game. Another loss could hurt lots more than an opportunity to be there.

If we play against Vandy like we did against SC then i promise you we will lose. I watched Vandy play Arky and Vandy should have won the game.

So you'd rather lose to Kentucky or Vanderbilt and go 5-7 instead of going 6-7 with a bowl loss?

I'm not sure what you're saying...

I am not sure we can win another game. Much less, get a bowl bid. I really don't want to lose to anyone but I am a realist !!!! We cannot even get a touchdown when we are almost given two of them.

Can't tell if serious.

I question your fandom and knowledge if you're not sure Tennessee will beat Middle Tennessee. They're 2-5 with wins over 2-7 Memphis and 0-7 FAU.

Btw.... you don't need to score on offense to beat Kentucky.

#6 after this past weekend.

Vandy may put up a fight but I wouldn't look to hard at UK. They've looked pretty awful as of lately.

I go to UK and I can tell you this is the worst SEC football team to ever walk onto a field. Most expected the team to lose to Jacksonville St. and i am still not sure that the only reason they won that game was because they had a bye-weeek before it. Simms would easily be the starter for UK.

Until UT can run the ball there not capable of beating anyone losing Bray and Hunter was huge but we lost to a bad Florida and a ok Georgia team simply because we can't run the football we ran better last year with freshman so why are we worse when they are in year two ? With a senior tailback and year two in Dooleys system we should be better than 119th in rushing no matter who the qb is so losing to Vandy is a strong possibility

Vandy is showing what good QB play and spirited team play can provide which is rousing moral victories against the best inter SEC.

Against another titan in moral victories (UT) we'll see how they do. I am praying Bray is 100% by then and if you like beating Vandy and believe in God I'd suggest praying to. We won't beat Vandy with our current offensive output.

correct me if i'm wrong but don't you have to have 6 wins against the big boys to go to a bowl? that being said, the montana win won't count towards bowl eligibility. so we need 7 wins to be bowl eligible.

Nope, only if TWO of your wins came from the little guys

I noticed UK has a new starting QB freshman Maxwell Smith. He was 26/33 agaist MSU Saturday and UK looked much better with him playing instead of Newton. So Vandy makes a QB change that makes them much better now KY makes a QB change that appears to be a major improvement over what they had. I see no guaranteed wins on our schedule unless it's MTSU and they even make me nervous at this point. With the Brewer injury now I honestly expect us to be 5-7 at best. I hope I'm wrong........

Truth. Their defense has looked great at times; i.e.: playing in Death Valley and holding LSU to under 350 yards. But then, USC tears them up for 639. Their offense is nonexistent. Tennessee will easliy win that game. Vandy won't be so easy. Carolina beat them by 18, but it seemed much closer than that. Of course, we had an alcoholic playing QB then, so anyone could have made us look terrible.
