His father released a statement to Jimmy Hyams.
And I quote the quote that Jimmy quoted the day that quote was reported late last month by all other reporters.

" Devante is really broken because he couldn't make it thru the foot drills at camp". He went on to say that " My sons chest and back and legs and arms and head and feet and neck hurts from a hit he took from a real man, and he don't wanna anymore."

When the parents are worse than the kids it gets crazy.

A committed LSU recruit that just got a major bump up on rivals today is being bad-mouthed by another recruit's father on rivals.com, his son wasn't offered by LSU so the kid's dad is cutting down other kids.

You really couldn't make this stuff up.

Don't care that DB left, don't care how he left, just don't let daddy bad mouth UT. Homesick, family problems, baby momma issues, whatever, best of luck with it. If you feel the need to make a statement, just say "I enjoyed my time there but ultimately I felt it in my best interest to leave." That would have been the end of it. Don't try to make UT or the coaches look bad because you chose to leave, couldn't hack it, got your feelings hurt. I don't buy the broken promises excuse.

was any of you guys in that louisiana office that day ? No, but i know someone that was in there. I will be the first to say this, it's not dooley at all. But when you allow fans to think this kid is a liar, come on man up and just admit you told the kid this and it was the only reason he signed because he believed in you. Now you do the kid this and try to call his dad a liar. Nobody promised the kid a starting job, nobody told the kid or his parent anything about giving them money. It's not even an ncaa violation, just made the young man realize you can't be trusted and wanted to move on. I say this we all have our opinions about certain things, but there is a god above and to let it look like this guy left over something else is sad, real sad. Really i hope the vols have a great year and dooley can keep his job and don't get fired like many posters want. But the kid left because he was homesick and his childs grandfather died in his second week of being in knoxville. I get on many forums and have fun with fans since the 80's, but bourque is a kid that believed in too many coaches and found one he really trusted in and look what he does him. From the bottom of my heart hope the vols have a great season because dooley is a great man, but wow you're gonna hang that kid out like that. Seems like a lot of people have known Davonte Bourque for a while, or seems to be making a hell of a lot of assumptions over what an overbearing and seemingly unrealistic father says during a heated time in a family's life about an 18 year old they have never met, and are just mad because someone accused "their coach" of doing something wrong.

I'll go with the latter.

Promised a chance to play D1 ball and found out he wasn't the stud he thought he was. There were guys that were hungrier than he was to make it to the next level.

The parents are sometimes worse than the kids. I am sure you we are not done watching parents help self-destruct their own kids from Louisiana. The only thing I can think of is he is saying a coach from TN lied but not Dooley, but that is not the reason he left????????? Of course, the coaching staff at LSU was lying too. The coaching staff from LSU and UT get together at night time to discuss their strategies of how to handle their players and recruits. :)

It's hard to paint Bourque in a positive light when the kid has had other verbal commitments he backed off of by making similar claims. Truth is, while my condolences go out to the family for their loss, this is life. It's not easy for anyone. I'm guessing most of us have had loved one's we are close to pass away. And unfortunately the cold reality is most of us go back to work in 3 or 4 days because we have to make a living. He's not the first person to have a kid, sure he's going to miss his child, but truth is that's why it is better to have kids when your life is a lot more stable(i.e. college education, decent job,etc.) It obviously doesn't always occur like that but many people have made it work anyways.

The thing is, it sounds like a bunch of excuses. Is he going to quit his job when something happens later down the road? If he was lucky enough to make the NFL, is he going to demand a trade to be close to his child and only play home games? You get the point right?

And homesick is a horrible reason to quit. A lot of us have been stuck somewhere and got homesick, but that didn't mean we left. Got a buddy that just got back from a 1 year tour in Iraq, what do you think would happen if he told the US government, 'I know I accepted this mission, but I'm homesick, send me back!'. No offense but Davante has a lot of growing up to do.

Graham must have promised him it would be easy, hardly no work at all, and a starting job was there for the taking. Funny how lattimore raved about his attn to pass protection and his coaching ability, and also that none of our remaining backs are complaining about him.
