Wife plays the SIMS games and loves them all. You don't need a rockin PC for them. I played Diablo 3 on PS4, it's ok.

My work laptop - a 3 year old Dell with an i5, 6 gb RAM, 500 gb hd, and no actual graphics card - was fried at my school when a student plugged his cell phone into a faulty outlet the other day :( I only used it for lesson plans, PowerPoints, and other classroom related things, but my hard drive was saved at least.

Anyways, I was looking for a comparable replacement (about 600 or 700 dollars), nothing special, when I came across Dell's lower end gaming laptops for $650. It has a 6th gen i7, 8 gb RAM (with a slot for additional RAM), 1 TB (with a slot for an SSD), and a GTX 960. I figured I could still do my school work on it and play some old games (KotOR, Fallout 2, etc.) Any ideas what else it could run? I haven't played any PC games since Diablo 1 & 2 came out nearly 20 years ago.

Also, what kind of surge protector should I pick up to prevent that from happening again? The ones the school supplied us with obviously didn't do the trick lol

Are you looking at the Dell 7559?

I have one with basically identical specs (i7, 960m, 8 GB RAM).

It's a great laptop and can play anything that isn't a "benchmark game" (i.e., no Crysis 3) released pre-2013 at mostly max settings (minus AA) @ 1080p and 60 FPS. Newer games need to be run at medium/low settings, but honestly, the difference between max and even low is minimal for many games now.

Definitely recommend swapping/adding a SSD and even upping the RAM to 16 GB, seeing as how inexpensive memory is now.

That's the one. Thanks, I'll do those upgrades you suggested.

It's a WWII strategy game with squads and base building. You capture points for resources. 4 different armies with three variations each that can change game play.

If you are into strategy games at all it's worth picking up the base game for 5-10 bucks to give a whirl. I like playing new games but ten years later it's still a game me and my friends love to play

I recommend juicing up your PC it's far superior to consoles I love it. Also love the mouse and keyboard it is much more fun to use and far superior for first person shooters

I'll probably just play games like C&C with that laptop, and some PC exclusives. My friends and I have invested in Xbox and PlayStation online since we were in high school and college, and I'm not much at making new fiends lol my PC master race brother may be the only one I know, but he is literally the guy from South Park with the wrist brace playing WoW 17 hours a day 😂

I will use the mouse and keyboard for games that definitely need it, but the Xbox One Elite controller works on PC too right? It's less stress on my wrists.

You'll have to buy a adapter but yes. Even gsmes like the witcher feel superior on PC it's pretty amazing at 60 frames per second

Yeah, I was wondering about the Witcher 1. I'd like to try it. And I wonder if the PC version of Dark Souls 1 runs well? I hear that From Software didn't make it run any higher frames than on consoles.

Haven't played the first witcher I was talking about the 3rd. I'm getting between 60 and 75 frames it really makes the gsme more enjoyable. I've heard the dark souls series is a horrible pc port

Yeah I figured you were talking about 3, but I play it on consoles since I have it on one already. Souls is the only thing I purchase multi platform. That sucks though, I wanted to see it at higher than 15 in Blightown.

What's your steam account? I used to play the original COH religiously so we should play!

In other news, I'm going to build a desktop PC this semester. It'll let me play Overwatch competitively.
