Both Wins, Similar Teams

In our 2 big wins against Auburn and Kentucky, both teams have strong running games but limited passing attacks. Both are somewhat one-dimensional and Pruitt took advantage. Great defensive scheme.

I’m interested to see how we play Mizzou since they are the opposite — very strong passing team. Thoughts?
Auburn's running game is hot garbage this year. That's why they go as Stidham goes.

Missouri is dangerous. You defend the pass and they run all over you. Can only hope Dooley Dooleys.

Yep, best way to defend them is to load the box and make them throw. Vols have to control the line of scrimmage and tackle the football well. They have to get in the QB’s face and pressure him. If they don’t get pressure the game is over before it starts.

Missouri isn’t one dimensional, they run for right at 200 yards per game and throw for 275 or so...gonna be much more difficult to defend.

Also, recall that they punked us last year by running for 400+ yards when they were supposed to be a passing team.

Don’t know how this game is gonna wind up, but don’t get it twisted. This isn’t the same situation/set-up as Kentucky in terms of their offense being one dimensional.

There are many variables as mentioned in this thread. Strength vs weakness etc. Pass instead of run. How do the weaker units perform? What is the motion of UT? Does UT play clean and agressive? This game is a toss up because we just don't know. It is why I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I am interested with OP. I believe our secondary has improved greatly since WV. Lets go find out! Anyone who says they know the answer is crazy .....

Rushing defense wise, they’re not bad.

Passing defense wise, though, they’re hot garbage.

Pass D isn't what some think. They just defend a ton of passes, probably a holdover from last year. Effiency wise, they are bad, but not horrible.

See WV game. Drew Lock & Will Grier are both very good. Our secondary is more seasoned. Our DL seems to be getting pressure.. Dooley has been able to watch film on each of our previous games...Same with Pruitt on theirs... Chess match...

If it's a chess match between Pruitt and Dooley, I like our chances!

Go Vols!!!

That was my point. Both teams we beat are fairly one dimensional. Missouri is not, but they have a scary passing attack.

I could see Miz game being kinda like SC, but could also see Pruitt scheming them up pretty good. They're a pretty resilient team that has played most all their quality opponents close (win or lose), so would expect the same on Sat.
That you Butch?

Last week everyone made Kentucky out to be Alabama East. Had they played Tennessee's schedule they would have been 500. Games matter when they are played. Kentucky beat Florida when Kentucky was at their healthiest and Florida was trying to figure out their new coach etc. Now Missouri is the Patriots. A team that is 2-4 in the conference and lost at home to Kentucky. They have one good win at Florida. Florida had an off day and are a bit beat up. Other then that, they have no good wins. Had they played a decent out of conference game they would also be 5-5. There is no reason why Tennessee should not win this game. Don't give Missouri to much credit as you did Kentucky.

You have to take something away. I'd play man up and take my chances. I think stopping the run is more important.

Drew lock has stats inflated by ooc games. He has been much worse than JG in SEC games. We can stop them.

I think our boys come to play on Saturday. Can't say if we'll win or lose, but I think they're turning a leaf in that they'll give it their all against these last 2 sec teams.

It's nice to be gaining momentum late in the season as opposed to being broken, worn out and waiting for it to end.

I guess watch the Missouri Kentucky film as they held them to 14. I am sure it is all about being able to get pressure on the QB to make him make quicker decisions and stuffing the running game. A lot on the defense this week they will be the unit that determines if we win or lose the game.
