Report: BOTH New Xbox and PS4 Will Be Shown At E3
Information comes from "100% concrete, ultra high level" source.

UK games industry outlet MCV has reported that both the next Xbox AND the PlayStation 4 will be shown at this year's E3 in June.

This isn't the first time that a publication has cited an unnamed source with information like this, but this isn't some unknown central European games blog - MCV's credibilty makes this particular report worth paying attention to.

Speaking on Twitter, MCV's online editor Ben Parfitt said "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level."

We shouldn't necessarily expect a full-blown reveal, though - we might just see the announcement. Editor-in-Chief Michael French told IGN: "This is very credible. Even if we don't see the hardware itself, or know a price or date, key publishers and developers are expecting some nod towards what direction PS4 will take at E3 this year. Sony isn't stupid - it knows that if Microsoft is planning to also say something about its next console, it can't be left behind."

Many were expecting Microsoft to come out on stage at E3 with some information about the new Xbox, but Sony's reveal would be more surprising, as a new console at this stage in the PlayStation 3's life cycle would fly in the face of the company's stated "ten-year plan".

If both Sony and Microsoft do indeed reveal their new consoles at the same time as Nintendo details the release schedule and pricing for the Wii U, this would quite probably be the biggest E3 in history.

Very credible source on this subject

nope to at least half of that:

Sony Executive Says No PlayStation 4 at E3 2012 - PS3 News at IGN

Ever since videogame website MCV published a rumor story about the PlayStation 4 premiering at E3 2012, rumors and speculation to the contrary have been coming out, including that from industry analyst Michael Pachter, which stated that he thinks "there's zero chance of a tease from Sony for PlayStation 4" at E3.

And now, word has come out from Sony itself that PlayStation 4 won't be shown at E3.

Speaking at a "roundtable with reporters" at CES (as reported by The Wall Street Journal), Sony's Kaz Hirai answered a question about the PlayStation 4 showing up at this year's E3. "Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I've always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that."

That essentially puts MCV's report to rest, though there's plenty of time for things to change between now and E3 2012.

that's why i'm usually a bit wary when anything cites its story as coming from a "100% concrete, ultra high level source"

I'm expecting both systems to have solid state drives and the latest graphic cards (whatever that is, I guess NVIDIA?)

Should be awesome machines.

Not this time I guess

The more noteworthy comment to take away from this might be, though, the quote they have about the ps3's expected lifespan (presuming he's not actually being literal, that might mean they've planned on a 7-8 year lifespan...possibly it having been extended due to move)

Smokescreen, just like Randy Shannon.

Lol

Nah, the big 3 are pretty much straight forward when it comes to new systems; theyve always beeb such. Either they'll admit there's something in the works (Nintendo in the 3-4 months up to last year's e3) or they'll just avoid answering (you know, like that "not at liberty to discuss" stuff)...nothing this direct

VG247 has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release.

The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.

Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”

We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.

There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.

Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.

We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.

The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.

Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.

Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.

Lionhead and Bethesda are just two of the latest.

Really think that the "always-connected" BS will not fly

Sounds legit. I may be an xbox owner next generation. Hopefully PS4 matches these specs somewhat?

We need to start a "next gen system rumors" thread or something. That's all these sources (sometimes loosely) have been getting the last few months.

(Better than the one saying it will launch in 2013 with "kinect 2.0" though)
