Boosters calling for Currie to resign

Hard to distance UT BOT from the governor.

Bill will be out as governor in 2018, but that doesn't mean he and Jimmy won't still try to wield power at UT. If nothing is done to stop them now, things will not change for UT.

Tennessee has long had a problem with improper and self-indulgent boosters in athletics. That's when real leadership from the school President is needed to ascertain that boosters understand that their contributions are welcome, but cannot be used for influence and power over the institution.

:clapping::rock::rock:To really make your opposition to AD Currie effective, make it directly with the UT Chancellor Beverly Davenport...she hired Currie. Send her an e-mail...overload her e-mail system.

chancellor@utk.edu

Suggest that we replace him with Philip Fulmer and restore respectability to both the University and the Vol athletic program.

Lots of pressure on John Currie to resign today from many big time boosters. Bunch of turmoil in Athletic Department. #Tennessee

Am told there's increasing pressure now from big-money #Vols boosters to force #Tennessee AD John Currie out in the wake of Sunday's news. UT source told me: "This is such a hot mess. Just when you think they’ve gotten out of the ditch. They’ve fallen into a much bigger one.”

It is good that Large and Medium size boosters are not taking this lying down. But even small boosters and fans such as myself can make a difference by our sheer numbers and our actions. I am personally refusing to give my money to pilot or flying j for any reason and i have written emails to Chancellor Davenport requesting John Currie be fired and replaced with either Fulmer or Blackburn. Also have written emails to the Athletic Department and will be writing more to members of the BOT. I am small and insignificant as one person but if we all make our voices heard VOLNATION will stand tall and proud.

We are headed into a dark time...but we must rid ourselves of the folks who continue to bring this program down and bow to “old money” in order to truly have a chance at the future. I am headed to ktown today...if something isn’t done then many of us have no other choice than to pull funding and resources until a change is made. I urge all of you no matter how big or small a donor to let the folks at UTAD department know we expect a healthy process and fair shake....if not support other good causes and get tickets on stub hub the day of the game if you want but do not donate until resolution has come.

There can be no mercy.

This IS Tennessee!

They hired the wrong guy (hell, Blackburn wasn't the right guy either, hire a big time/experienced AD like Florida and Alabama did).

Now they're shocked he flunked his first test. Really? When did he ever hire a football coach before? Try NEVER!

Now they'll over react, panic and screw up again.

My suggestion is turn it over to Fulmer, tell him to Step back, take a deep breath, find a list of good CURRENT HEAD coaches and start the conversation. Like Currie didn't do the first time.

Again, Currie is only a puppet to the Haslams. He does what he is told. The main problem here is the Haslams.

Hamilton controlled by Haslams

Bama Dave controlled by Haslams

Currie controlled by Haslams.

See a reoccurring theme here?

What is a reasonable expectation? We're constantly told that the Tennessee job isn't that great, how is that determined? We've had talking heads tell us Schiano was good enough for Tennessee, but what does that mean?

Tennessee has one of the largest fan bases in CF, one of the largest stadiums (and can fill it), is near the top in revenue, and one of the most profitable. If we were a stock, we'd be a top 5 blue chip stock. So what is a reasonable expectation for a coach in our program?

I know you are ovewhelmed. I don't expect you to answer. But I would love to know what *you* think is a reasonable expectation.

Right on, and some of us have been saying this for a few years now. Make your voices heard with your dollars. The only way it will work.

I've been doing my part. I gave up my 25 year season tickets immediately after Kiffin left, and I haven't spent a dime on UT football since then. I could see the writing on the wall, and it said, "the loser Haslam family runs this show, not the fans." It's been a long, sad decade of football ineptness, and evidently it can become even worse going forward. My heart for UT football has left the building. I am grateful that I got to be a part of that great quarter-century run though.

Let's be honest. Everyone and i mean EVERYONE knew Currie was a bad hire to begin with.

I never liked him, and now the dumbass admits Schiano was his first choice.. totally not qualified.. he needs to grow a pair and do what is best for the school..

If the Haslams are at faught, there are plenty of boosters who can collectively out donate them

Greg Schiano might have been in play ‘before demise’ of Butch Jones

It appears Schiano may have been at the least, one of the top three candidates. I am curious how many candidates were actually considered and what coaches were contacted. Based on this article, Schiano was being considered for a while so we’re guys like Patterson, Peterson, and Frost even contacted?

What role did Manning play in this decision? What other boosters were contacted prior to the hire?

What, exactly, is larger than football? John Currie listened to the fans. We opposed this hire and he listened. That should count for something.

Currie never listened to anyone but Haslam. To be extremely kind, your post is the most uninformed bit of blather I've ever heard......EVER!!

Well let's hope he can fire himself faster than he fired Butch, or it may not be until the spring game!

This appears to be the truth based on what I’m hearing as well.

Sounds like Jimmy promised Currie a lot of money for the stadium renovations if he got to pick the coach. ONLY explanation that makes sense.

Makes sense that a wealthy man who puts a lot of money into the university might want to get a lot of money back out of the university -- working construction contracts.
