Booster Meeting Today Regarding CPF

What other upgrades could he want? Not to mention what is already being scheduled over the next 8-10 years? I call BS on this...

Well, to name a few things,

1. More downtown, highrise & penthouse apartments for his players.

2. Larger player paychecks.

3. New (not used) Hummers for every player.

4.. Getto Blasters built-in to the garnet helmets.

I pray to God that Pete Carroll's name is never mentioned here again. I cant stand him. Yeah, he wins games...but hes a weasel and a cheater. If he came to UT, we'd be on probation within 2 years.

I have to agree...if this did go down....Pete Carroll would just use us for leverage!

agree

UNC pays him about 1.8 million per year. I guess a immediate 500,000 raise will allure him to UT, and we have EVERYTHING better here.

I don't like the two USC OC. A defensive coach has a better chance to survive in SEC

Coach O done well at Ole Miss to:)... As far as Pete I think we are dreaming, but I don't understand why people bash Butch Davis??? I mean look at the recruiting classes he has had at UNC...I would love to have him...

I have heard all of these names except PC. Why would he leave such a program as USC. He has turned down numerous jobs at other schools, and the pros. Is it the lure of the SEC that would bring him? I think they will go ahead and let him stay until the endof the year. There is no one onthe sidelines that can take over. Haslem can afford the buyout, but onehas to review Hamilton's decision to do what he did by extending the contract. He is next.

lets go get butch.....he has a 5 star DE commited to him and is on the short list for Deven Kennard (#1 DE in the nation). also he is in it for kevin newsome.......LETS GO GET HIM.

here is a question, would he leave there to come here?

i heard they did have a meeting. but no real details except a couple six figures boosters wasn't going to back them next year if fulmer was there. it was on the jeff ,and heather show .

What is the Jeff & Heather Show?

This secret meeting comes right after the rumor of a secret banking account with the buyout money. :detective:

To tell you the truth, as much as I would absolutley give anything to have Pete Carroll coach here, I just don't see it happening. Although, it would be an intresting prospect to put in an offer.

Well this is the BEST conference in the nation. On the other hand the left coast is laid back and not a lot of competition for him out there. Yeah, I know they lost to Oregon St last week but still USC is one of the top jobs in the country and I think UT is also.

Has Butch or Carroll had any of there teams on probation? If so I don't think that is the route to take. IMO

I believe Carroll is making in the $3-4 million range at USC (doesn't he have some "secret" contract with USC?). It would take a bunch of money to lure him here, but it's been done before (see: Alabama). Making him the first $5 million man might just do it, especially if he is unhappy with the facilities, et. al.

As to validity of the original post, I wouldn't think JZ would pass along rumors without good cause to believe them.

Butch Davis wouldnt be a bad move as far as i am concerned.
We have seen the past 3 yrs he can recruit tn pretty good. I have always liked his style of recruiting too. He brings in players, studs, another words he is closer to Saban than Meyer on the recruiting front. He also seems to put together good staffs. We may be on probation in a few years but at least for 5 we will be very competitive.

This prompted me to look at his wiki and all I can say is wow.

"The following players were coached or recruited by Davis in his stint at Miami: Ray Lewis (LB), Yatil Green (WR), Kenard Lang (DE), Kenny Holmes (DE), Duane Starks (CB), Edgerrin James (RB), Bubba Franks (TE), Dan Morgan (LB), Damion Lewis (DT), Santana Moss (WR), Reggie Wayne (WR), Bryant McKinnie (OT), Jeremy Shockey (TE), Phillip Buchanon (CB), Ed Reed (S), Mike Rumph (CB), Andre Johnson (WR), Jerome McDougle (DE), Willis McGahee (RB), William Joseph (DT), the late Sean Taylor (S), Kellen Winslow II (TE), Jonathan Vilma (LB), D.J. Williams (LB), Vernon Carey (OT), Vince Wilfork (DT), Antrel Rolle (CB), and Kelly Jennings (CB)"

I've never posted something like this and feel free to take it for what it's worth...

I was told by a friend there was a meeting with the higher ups and Hamilton regarding CPF's exit. The question was not IF but how to remove a future HOF coach with dignity.

Haslam was not there (out of town) Thorton was there but said he could not support buying out CPF but at this point will not stand in the way.

The coaches on the initial list are:

Pete Carroll (I was told he was promised upgrades in facilities that haven't happened and isn't happy about it)

Steve Sarkisian

Butch Davis

Lane Kiffen

The person who told me is well connected but feel free to take this for what it's worth.

I just thought I would pass along the info.

I'm not saying this is true about Pete Carroll, but I heard the same thing yesterday. I didn't think much about it at the time.

I got a call yesterday from a friend and his brother had just called him and filled him in. Here is the story I was told.

He said the source was a former UT football player but he did say who. He said University and Boosters have definitely been in contact with Peter Carroll and Carroll was indeed interested in Tennessee. He said he was very interested in taking on a new challenge, and what better place to do so than a tradition rich school like Tennessee. According to this source, Carroll also has family in Tennessee. Numbers were even mentioned. He said the Boosters were prepared to offer anywhere from 5 to 5.5 million per year for Carroll.

Again, take this for what it's worth. I'm not really buying it, but this is exactly what I was told.

The way it was presented to me the meeting was more along the lines, how would we gracefully remove him (CPF) and who would we call first (essentially throwing out some possible names to gauge their interest)?

So is anyone going to take all this and call in to a respected sports talk show in Knoxville and bring it up? Test this to see if it has any legs? If it already has been discussed on the radio, please share for those not in the K-town area.

A journalist from the Tennessee Journalist said that it seems as Pete Carroll and Jon Gruden are considered to be wishful thoughts but small possibilities, but he believes we have a better shot at Greg Schiano and Bob Stoops for lesser money

Interesting list and comments...Carroll would be a dream coach to have here but realisticly, Butch Davis is more approachable and probably more interesting and overall BETTER for UT...He's a headhunter recruiting and would make us a lot better.
