Booger McFarland predicts UT season: "Abysmal"

Qualified journalists and analysts who really know the game? If you find one, we need to have it's skeleton displayed in a museum. Last I checked, the really good ones are all dead, and they were considered good because they had decent writing skills.

Seems most intelligent people choose another profession while most sports writers just know how to fool drunken sports fans into believing they know what they are talking about. This is why Chris Collinsworth still has a job.

But at the risk of rupturing a gut muscle laughing, I will take a risk; name one.

My point is: people who actually study the game and know their stuff rarely get the chance to because the networks hire based on name and not knowledge of the game. And I would agree some who would make great analysts go into other professions because of lack of opportunity. Networks hire on name more than skill.
I know it is hard to name one because networks have been hiring celebrities for the last 40 years.

To play devils's advocate here....when or how often recently has Tennessee met or exceeded expectations?

2015? Every year we do these predictions. I am someone who you would think would be biased against Tennessee and pick them to do poorly because I am a Gator fan and most every season they underachieve my expectations.

Last year, like an idiot, I had Georgia winning the division. But, I didn't have Tennessee at 8-4 even though I didn't pick them to win the division.

I think the word "abysmal" is too strong. However, if Tennessee were to go 7-5....there would be calls to fire Butch, dumpsters and mattresses would be set ablaze, and the Rock would be painted with unflattering thoughts.

And that would be "abysmal" for the program.

One last thing.....Booger's opinion can not be considered ridiculous until it is actually proven to be incorrect. Until then, it's as valid as anyone else's opinion.

To let my feelings be known....I think there are several teams in the East that can go anywhere from 6-6 to 10-2, 11-1 and it wouldn't surprise me. Only a fool would wager money on how teams in the East will perform in 2017. JMO

Abysmal.... the only thing Abysmal is his lack of simple research on the program and the talent we have... He says we beat GA and FL but lost to Vandy... at the end of the season with 3rd string..... while that fact is true, it is the context that is false... we barely had a team left... many earlier said he couldn't even name 10 players... for those old farts who remember "name that tune", I say he couldn't name 6 players right now.... lost a lot of respect for this guy... "abysmal"... SMDH.... If he said "hey, TN is a team that has a lot to prove and will need to step up in certain positions... All of their games will present a challenge and it will be very tough for them to win the East and may stumble a bit along the way"... that is what a realistic analyst would say...

UT's scrubs are more talented than Vandy's first string. And those same scrubs had no trouble building a pretty sizeable lead.

Booger fails in 90% of the predictions he makes going into every season. Anyone who has watched the SECN during the summer knows this. :shakehead:

I love it when the media pundits give us no chance...this is not the only time it's happened...:)...and, as always...

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Booger went on a Nashville radio show this morning and predicted that the upcoming season for CBJ and Tennessee Vols football will be "abysmal."

https://soundcloud.com/espnnashville/booger-mcfarland-on-braden-fitz-7-10-17

That is a pretty strong word to use and Booger thinks it is because we lost a lot of talent, we are breaking in a new QB and other teams in the SEC are more talented. He also is obviously not a big believer in CBJ. I don't think the season will be "abysmal", but CBJ has to get a few wins out of the BAMA, LSU, FL and GA gauntlet and absolutely cannot have a Vandy/SC/KY "slip up" this season.

Booger didn't even put Barnett in his top five dl in the sec. he's a douche.

Funny how when I didn't like Booger during the time he was praising us, none of you 3 or 4 posters who made this exact same post, minded. Now if I don't like him, it's because his prediction is bad.

2 things have remained constant.

1. My (and several others) dislike for him.
2. Your assertion is just as much bullsh!t now, as when the first 3 posters said so.

Lol

Georgia, Florida, and TN could all fall in that category. It all comes down to QB play for each team and at this point nobody will know what that looks like until September.

Ironically, the more than likely pick to win it has the more proven commodity returning at that spot.

Everytime he says anything or makes a comment about anything I am forced to read about 10 comments+ a thread about his name.

Big freakin whoop. His name is Booger. :p

Of course I disagree with Booger. But, I do think for the most part, he does a pretty good job as an analyst. I also guarantee Booger can name 10 players on UTs team. His predictions are usually off, but he does his homework, imo

Booger is good people. He's had our back on SECN plenty of times. He probably talks to people who actually study these things before spouting off. If he's right we get a new coach. If he's wrong maybe we win the East finally. I'm good either way.

Nothing like citing something that you have no idea as to whether it is true or not. I doubt very seriously he could name let alone evaluate 10 guys on any SEC roster.

A guess that people put stock into is always ridiculous. Anyone that puts any merit in these guesses are equally as ridiculous.

Just because of his name, he thinks he nose everything, but what he says is snot true.
