There's a biiiiig difference between having a lot of money, donating a lot of money, and being a "powerful booster."
What makes the Haslams so powerful is that they seem to believe their donations give them control over the University, as though they are buying equity in it.
Some boosters have a ton of money, but don't donate it to their school (Warren Buffett and Nebraska). Some boosters have a ton of money and donate a ton of money, but they don't care about hob-nobbing with the football coach (Tim Cook and Auburn). Some boosters have a ton of money, donate a ton of money, and believe that that money gives them access to/"ownership" of the program (Haslams at Tennessee, Phil Knight at Oregon, many different boosters at Texas, etc.).
