Carson Beck left after the season and before the Spring. The issues with him were known for a while. Plus, Kirby’s roster looks a lot different than Heupel’s. Can you name another team of significance where players of this consequence left after Spring?Because they’re the two you’re closest to. Ever heard of Carson Beck?
I would probably not be a very successful coach! Can you think of a way to anticipate and/or prevent it? Short of just rolling over every time a player steps up to threaten leaving, what's your plan?
I have no idea who left when but it’s crazy to act like we’re the only program that has high profile transfers. And players have been transferring after spring for years.Carson Beck left after the season and before the Spring. The issues with him were known for a while. And UGA has always had issues with players getting arrested during the summer and getting suspended for a game or 2. Give you a story from Spurrier back when he coached SC. He was asked about having to play UGA the 2nd game of the season every year. He said he liked it because they always had 2-3 starters suspended from arrests in the summer.Because they’re the two you’re closest to. Ever heard of Carson Beck?
The money is for winning games which Josh Heupel has done. We'll address Heupel's pay vs delivery vs team issues when the wins stop happening. Until then, he's doing his job.I’m not paid $9 million bucks to manage football program, but it seems odd too me that of all the D1 programs, UT has these two examples.
Hell his own agent didn’t know what was going on and boo hired another one. I’m sure he was well aware of his missed meetings. He didn’t have to tell you anything.I think he was absolutely caught off guard, which begs another question. Why? Was it a genuine unavoidable surprise, or is he out of touch in certain areas? I think it’s a fair question. When have you ever heard of a starting QB leaving after Spring ball?
Then the Boo thing?
So Heupel shouldn't have signed a talented kid from nearby Chattanooga because...he had the potential to be a problem down the road? Guess what...you won't win a damn thing if that's your approach. Most of the high end talent you sign in football has the potential to be a problem down the road.Heupel and co. did the eval on both these guys. They met and got to know both players and their families. Seem to recall some posts expressing some concern about Carter's issues off the field during his recruitment.
Every coach dances to his own tune, but Vitello won't recruit a kid if he's all about the money or his family appears problematic. Probably learned his lesson with Burns, but the buck stops with Heupel. I suspect he felt like he could guide the kid through all this and keep the families in line, but it appears that wasn't the case. Played with fire and got burned at least once. Let's see how this Carter situation unfolds going forward and how things play out with the roster and locker room.
People are so obsessed with fitting everything into a narrative. We’re dealing with 18-22 year olds that have leverage for the first time in their lives. It’s a giant goat rodeo for everybody.C'mon, man. It's only comparable if it is a significant team, and a position of consequence, and after a certain time.
"Boo is part of our team here," Heupel said. "There are some things he needs to accomplish to get back on the field with us. I don't have a set timeline on that. Our leadership council has been a part of those things, those discussions with me and with Boo. I'm proud of what they have done. They care and love Boo and want him to be his best, too, and I think through this, Boo sees that as well. At the end of the day, us collectively continue to grow through the course of training camp. I will be the one that will handle and will take questions on Boo, and that's today and here throughout the beginning part of training camp. But proud of how our team has handled those things. Ultimately, we will handle those things internally. I am not going to get into the details on everything."
Winning games doesn’t exempt a coach from criticism (maybe if you’re winning at the level of Saban). No offense, but no one needs your permission. We didn’t create the Boo problem or the Nico problem. The money is for winning games which Josh Heupel has done. We'll address Heupel's pay vs delivery vs team issues when the wins stop happening. others shared information they had heard on this as well though...this was going to come out regardlessThis is exactly why TB is a jackleg.
Took a locker room issue public and yapped about it every day until CBS picked it up and ran it nationally.
Just for clicks.
Every bit of criticism he has taken in this thread is due to that...and deserved. Bet my left nut EVERYONE involved in this process is livid with him for doing so. The coaches, Boo and his family, the leadership council and the team.
Ticks and leeches.
There's nothing wrong with criticizing Heupel but I asked if you had a way you think he could handle things better. So far...... crickets.Winning games doesn’t exempt a coach from criticism (maybe if you’re winning at the level of Saban). No offense, but no one needs your permission. We didn’t create the Boo problem or the Nico problem.
LOL. Ok. Sure. This was coming out. Man, the denial of some of y’all is hilarious. This is exactly why TB is a jackleg.
