Part of me has always thought that if instead of being Tony Basilio originally from Philly he was Rick Taylor from Oak Ridge, he'd be more popular.

Basilio bleeds orange, is an alum, and has lived in Knoxville for decades, but he's unmistakably Philadelphia in his voice and general disposition. That's going to turn off large portions of an East Tennessee audience, even if he is a huge Tennessee fan. When he doesn't have specific things to talk about, his show is a hard listen (it's strange with a bunch of inside jokes/references that I think only about 5 people understand).

Having said that, I listen to him somewhat regularly and his postgame shows are incredible entertainment, win or lose. You take what he says with a grain of salt - he's never held himself out to be Walter Cronkite.

I think they could do 1 year contracts, now that schools are involved. Would make sense. It's based upon students name, image, and likeness. Put proviso in there could be seen as attempting to limit their income a bility.

I dont enjoy his schtick. It's low brow. Wouldn't matter if he was a blood relative from Jonesborough TN.

I completely disagree. Brent Hubbs, Jimmy Hyams, John Wilkerson, and before them Mike Hammonds, Mike Keith, Bob Kessling, John Ward. All broadcasters, all members of media who arguably do or did not act like attention whores.

At the end of the day, they're talking about kids playing a game. None of this is serious, war and peace stuff. That's what I meant.

They conduct themselves that way because 1) they are employed by the University and/or 2) to maintain access to it. It's state-run media, which is fine if you want to consume that.

What Basilio and others provide is a more raw, unfiltered product that contains speculation (some of which is more informed than you might think) and off-the-cuff remarks. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, just like how listening to the party line isn't everyone's cup of tea. I like consuming both, personally, so you get different perspectives and then you make up your own mind. Basilio has never held himself out as some kind journalist, so it is funny to me how people judge him relative to that standard.

We're on a message board, so I'm assuming this crowd likes the kind of content that TB provides. I don't think the issue is so much with what TB says, because let's be honest, people on a message board usually like those kids of discussions. My point is that I think the dislike of him is more from his style and disposition, which is quintessential Philadelphia, more than what he's actually saying.

“Deals” are with collectives for NIL money. There are contracts but are worded to get around the NCAA’s archaic “no pay for play” position. Once a guy isn’t enrolled at Tennessee, the contract is voided as that is one stipulation. Players can walk out at any time.

I can relate to Tony because I am the exact same way. Many here probably wouldn't like me either, if they knew me in real life.

I learned a long time ago that at the end of the day, human beings are complicated. Once I accepted that simple truth, I learned to be much less judgmental towards other people.

I was raised by an extremely liberal Mother and an extremely conservative Father.
They fought constantly. I was the peacemaker. Not a fun job but I learned to try to respect all points of view.

I think some on here are just really frustrated and disappointed in the fact that Boo may not be a part of the team. I knew he had baggage from high school, but I hoped he could mature here and work out. No doubt he's a serious talent that would really benefit our team, but at some point, CJH will need to do what's best for the team. I think the frustration by some would have been taken out on whoever the first media site, blogger, podcaster or radio host.

He has the best post game show, no other on YouTube comes close. He has connections at UT, has great guests. A lot of the sunshine pumpers don't like him because he keeps it real about the Vols. He loves UT and does a lot to help folks.

That’s the part that’s confusing the heck out of me. Dude gets paid more money and promised a role of offense, and he’s unhappy? what exactly is the problem now? just doesn’t make sense and is really annoying
